Seeing that all other reviews for Qba are superlative, I am starting to rethink a lot of things. Namely, who sets the "bar" for reviews? I will just give my honest couple of cents and if its somewhat useful
to some few...Id be happy.
So I went to Qba for a college reunion. The best thing about Qba was it was so dang dark that we couldnt see across to the far end of the table. Whys that good you ask? Because I was there for a reunion remember...maybe its a good thing for some of us to be partially hidden. Jokes apart. Its a great place for a one on one, or two on two, or even three on three...but any number greater than that and youd better carry a flash light so you can aim it at the person you want to see farther away.
The outside seemed nice and friendly but despite many requests to the manager and despite there being vacant table, and despite and the lack of clear excuse (like it was reserved or somesuch) and despite waiting for 10 minutes we never got it. In anycase all of us were meeting after such a long time, no one wanted to be the fuss maker...so we settled for an inside table.
I orderd a Mojito and sad to say but Ive had better Mojitos...in far brighter places at far more cheerful prices. Since it was Happy Hours, I was saddled with another one of those ( Nope they wouldnt exchange it for an equal/less priced other drink...and I like my twofer as much as the next gal, so I drank it up.) My buddies in the mean were not too happy to hear that there is nothing...N O T H I N G to nibble on that comes with the drinks, not even petty peanuts! Now thats just rude. Anyone would tell you that having starters instead of peanuts just takes the fun outta drinking. Besides it shows the pettyness of the place because they wont give you petty peanuts for free. In absense of peanuts, we ordered appetisers and they were alright. Nothing to write home (or to mouthshut) about.
Then came food. We ordered some naans, daal and chicken dishes. The naans were again alright/okay/average...but the daal was the saltiest Ive had ( and when I say that I mean, double salt salty!), ditto for chicken somethingortheother. Again, no one wanted to be spoil sport. We were there for some happy ol times, so we mumbled our displeasure to the person next to us. I dont think any of the 11 of us would be going back anytime soon.
So all in all. Decent ambience (for small groups), below average drinks, way below average food. So whats all the hoopla about? I guess Delhi is just so hang-out-location starved, were all ready to lower the "bar" to this level...and beside we are too often too polite to ask for petty peanuts.
