I was walking to the restaurant for having my lunch. On my way, a beautiful lady walk against me and as she was crossing she asked "Come?" First I thought she is a tourist asking some help, then I realized and said "sorry." This incident happened in the middle of a working day on a busy bank street! .

I used to visit most of my friends houses and when I went on vacation one year, one such family had the fate of the only son's death out of AIDS and his wife too died in next 2 or 3 years leaving 2 children behind, where one is infected with AIDS. That was the free gift from a prostitute he visited.

A teenage girl was died and buried in a graveyard. When the brother reached the graveyard in night to check the missed mobile, noted that the watchman of the graveyard was having sex with the buried dead body which he dig in darkness.

Prostitution is an act of selling sexual favours for money. When sex is not available in the hour of need many opt for short cuts and vending machines. Since I already expressed my opinion on pornography, let me now concentrate on the issue of prostitution only.

Sexis an act which is created and meant for reproduction and thereby continuing the flow of life. Since reproduction and taking care of a child to growth is a difficult process nature covered the bitter act covered with the sweetness of sexual pleasures. Human beings enjoyed this emotion to the maximum and they wish to remain in that where they are not prepared to take the responsibilities.

When we place the ability of sex under wrap, we tie an elephant with a rope to a tree. If the rope is not strong and the tree is not strong enough, the elephant will bring down the tree or rip apart the rope. The tree is the morality of social existence and consciousness is the rope generally formed with a special thread, made of religious, social and political values dried in the season called 'life experience'. Three forces are important. The force of the elephant (Sex), the tree (Morality) and the rope (Consciousness). In jungles elephants are not tied, but modern day human beings decided not to live in jungles and so the tree and the rope come into the picture.

From the ancient days till now the trade of flesh is active. Each civilizations had there own set of privileges and restrictions for them. In any case, Greed of easy money, pleasure of sex, bad socio-economic conditions and lack of values which make the institution run through millions of years. Unless the 4 factors are get cured get rid of the social evil called prostitution is immovable. Many are forced to prostitution, few are attracted but the bigger social evils prevail.

Considering the volume of thoughts peeping in and limited space available, let me quickly consider the main points which I would like to put into your attention.

Case for Prostitution

1. Ifthe cleaning of a city garbage is stopped for a week, what will be the situation of the city? Aren't we (prostitutes) not acting as a garbage cleaners when it comes to sex? Millions of people from different places live in a city and many of them cannot live without it. We are infact protecting families from rape and molestation.

2. Our parents were not engaged in this business. We were dragged to this by the social conditions. What alternative the society have for us? Even if they repatriate us under some special schemes, the basic problems of the society exist and how we can survive? When educated and healthy people in crores remain, how the government can protect us if we stop our business? Even if we stop it, new people will come and what is the use?

3. Since we are not legal and our business is not legal we are not getting proper treatment and we will be expelled from the area if we say it publicly. Therefore we hide facts and we pass diseases to the society. If we are a recognized group these evils could have been prevented from the source itself. We have no protection from the atrocities against us from police and from clients which is inhuman at any standards. When animals, birds and trees have protection groups are we meager than those trees and animals?

4. Sex is not only for production of children and there are more than required people in the world and what is wrong if there are meager souls like us not produce more children. For that matter, we get more unwanted children because we are not educated and adding to the population. .

5. We are here because people come to us. We don't force anybody. Why to punish us only where the partner in crime remains in large?

Unless we give clear answers to these questions we cannot imagine the evil to be removed from the market.

Wait, I am not blind to the points against them.

1. Sexis a divine emotion it should not be sold for money. It is disrespect to the body, soul, family and society. Morality of the society and religious values don't promote prostitution. When a person sells his/her body for money, the purpose of nature is defeated. Most of the people join the trade for the sole purpose of making easy money. Others get compelled to the act and they continue in the field. There is no single good purpose involved in the process.

2. A prostitute is cashing on emotional immaturity of individuals which is not good or proper.

3. One go to a prostitute may become an addict. If there is no prostitution, they may not even attempt to it.

4. Once prostitution legalized many woman may be trapped and traded by the mafia who control.

5. These prostitutes are people in good health, especially in their earlier years and they can do hundred other jobs which they don't attempt.

The debate continues. There is no immediate permanent cure available. Any probable solutions need to be chalked out from village to village, city to city and country by country. Above all the issue needs to be addressed, in case to case, individual to individual basis. It is the will and resources that is required. The answer to the ultimate question is obvious, but when prevention is impossible without drastic change in different fields, any suggestion may turn irrelevant. The problem of prostitutes is only touch the 50% of the people effected. The other 50% is the life blood of the profession. Cure required in full.

Life is great…we should live it…respect it…Let us work in our small spheres of life for a better tomorrow, helping a helpless mind, soul and body without hurting our own.
