Hello friends,

I’m back with yet another directorial venture of RAJ KAPOOR. This movie touched upon the topic, which was taken as forbidden for ages that is-’widow re-marriage’. This is not just a movie but an eye-opener for the entire society that still believes in the by-gone/orthodox principles.

Star cast: -

· RISHI KAPOOR

· PADMINI KOLHAPURI

· SUSHMA SETH

· NANDA

· THANUJA

· SHAMMI KAPOOR

· KULBHUSHAN KHARBANDA

AND MANY MORE

Music: -

Ø LAXMIKANT-PYARELAL

Lyrics: -

Ø SANTOSH ANAND

Ø AMIR QAZALBASH

Singers: -

Ø Lata Mangeshkar

Ø Suresh Wadkar

Story in nut shell: -

Rishi belongs to poor family whereas Padmini is the daughter of a rich ‘thakur’. Rishi is in love with Padmini but she’s already engaged, and just after a week of her marriage her husband dies and now she returns back home as a changed lady. Rishi wants to marry her but she’s a widow so what will happen now???? Just watch and find out!

Performances: -

Padmini kolhapuri: -

Padmini is well suited in the character of an innocent girl, who is widowed before she comes to know what marriage means, and moreover raped by her brother – in – law. She emotes beautifully to the situation. May be you call it taut direction, or her performance but she was able to portray the feelings of a widow, then, clad in a white saree, she looks really fragile and broken. One feels empathetic towards her. She did justice with the character that demanded whimsical, fickle, and baby-like attitude before the widowhood and then suddenly the mature and social-abided actions.

Rishi Kapoor: -

Rishi, couldn’t have done his part better than he did. A young literate guy who finds his love in white, want to help her but how, is really portrayed well by him. His anger against the old traditions and customs, his urge to help his love are very well conceived. He tries to get away from his ‘chocolate boy’ image in this movie. He’s rebellious but charming.

Other characters: -

In other actors Thanuja had hardy much to play, Nanda who acted as a helpless mother was promising. Rishi’s favourite “maa”, Sushma Seth was in a new get-up, a real orthodox. Shammi Kapoor was good but not better, Kulbhushan played an angry father that he did very well. Little humour was tried to brought through Aruna Irani but it wasn’t needed, moreover it sounded farcical.

Direction: -

Don’t think if I need to say anything about Raj Ji. He was a brilliant director and actor. He knew how to get best out of his actors. Many a times he acted and told the artists what he really wanted. He could visualise the characters and used to sit with his music-directors, writers and singers as well to contribute what all he could and likewise, he learnt the technique of writing and creativity.

Music and lyrics: -

The music was the best as in most of Raj Kapoor movies. Laxmikant-Pyarelal, again enthralled the audience with some of the sweet and soothing tunes. The wordings written by Santosh Anand and Amir Qazalbash are again cherishing. Ye galiyan ye chaubara, sounds sweet and impressive. Bhawre ne khilaya, is another reminiscing number. Main hoon prem rogi, is the amalgamation of hill-folk and indian classical. Mohabbat hai kya cheez, is sober but good and meri kismat mein tu leaves you nostalgic

DIRECT FROM THE HEART: -

A fantastic movie, worth calling the mirror of the society.
