Story:

I recently got chance to go through the book though I followed the documentary two or three times.

Power of myth is based on the documentary that was out quite long back called Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth. It is a detailed document of the conversations that took place between Joseph Campbell and Bill Moyers.

Summary:

Joseph may have influenced many people with his documentary but this book is just too much to be grasped by a reasonable and logical mind . He explains mythology as the ‘song of the universe, the music of the spheres.’ along with Bill Moyers, his interviewer, about subjects that range from modern marriages to virgin births and Jesus to John Lennon.

Apart from being an American mythologist, he is also a writer and lecturer. He is best known for his work in comparative mythology and comparative religion. His work has covered many aspects of human experience and his philosophy is usually summarized by a phrase he used very often: “Follow your bliss.”

The other gentleman Moyers is an American journalist and so called liberal political commentator. He had served the White House Press Secretary way back in 60s. He worked as a network TV news commentator for quite some time and has been extensively involved with public broadcasting, producing documentaries and news journal programs.

The story line is too weak and fussy to keep the reader engaged.

As per my personal opinion the documentary was still reasonable to some extant. The book is nothing but pointless critical examination of mere hoaxes.
