S Byatt is really splendid. I read this book truly gradually, was prescribed to me by cousin; it took ages to wrap up. the dialect albeit hard to get a handle on rapidly is wonderful, colorful. Byatt splendidly reproduces Victorian period England and gloriously moves back and forward between the nineteenth and 21st century synchronizing the two times impeccably. The most excellent part of the book is her capacity to get into the skin of the characters, so well that she can catch even the slight subtleties of the distinctive idyllic styles of her artists(the focal characters). Her charactersiation is close immaculate.
The Indian peruser may however feel lost while perusing the various English social references especally the individuals who arent acquainted with the Victorian period and its ways. The book has the english nuance and the inferred has much more prominent quality than the composed. thus brilliantly inferred it is. She turns a charming sensual story, the story develops unobtrusively a basic serious eminence, reminscent of a hush gradually filling a room. The peak is chilling and the story changes itself from sentiment to interest easily.
An exceptional book, one of my faviriotes.
