Director – Wolfgang Petersen S
Screenplay – Mark

Protosevich and Paul Gallico

Its Eve of New Year. Jennifer(Emmy Rossum) and boyfriend Christian(Mike Vogel) want to break the news to former fireman cum mayor (Kurt Russell) that they are engaged. Single Mother (Jacinda Barrett) and son Conor (Jimmy Bennett) bump in to professional gambler Dylan(Josh Lucas) and gets hit off. Elena(Mia Maestro) has agreed on a stand with the steward(Freddy Rodriguez) so that she can sneak in and go to New York To meet her brother who is injured. Millionaire Architect Nelson(Richard Dreyfuss) is drinking and on the verge of suicide after his boyfriend ditched him. All this on Top of one of World’s most expensive Liner, The Poseidon. Just a couple of minutes after New Year, a gigantic wave hits the ship and causes destruction. Except for one part of the ship which has still not got affected, thousands die instantly with the water rushing at great speed inside the ship and also causing the ship to be upside down. Dylan decides to escape. The only way to do that would be to go to the bottom of the ship, which is now at the top. Doing this they have to pass fire, live electric wires, leaking gas, tight spaces, dangerous elevators and water. He is aided by Richard and the other characters mentioned. Extremely fast pace movie which is a remake of the 1972 hit, The Poseidon Adventure. Good Direction and Superb Production Design. Fans of the original will not be disheartened. Worth a watch. To really enjoy the movie, watch the movie as I did, in the IMAX dome.

Psst -

1)     The movie was made on a budget of $150 million. It grossed $22 million in the opening weekend and as we speak has grossed $36.8 Million in USA Alone.

2)     Shooting of the movie took place in 2 different sets. One was the original set created as a replica of the ship’s interior. The other one was an exact remake, except it was built with everything upside down.

3)     Many of the crew got minor infections due to being in dirty waters for hours at stretch.

4)     Within the week between February and March 2001 two hardened tourist cruisers – the Bremen and the Caledonian Star – had their bridge windows smashed by 30-metre rogue waves in the South Atlantic, the former ship left drifting without navigation or propulsion for a period of two hours.  Some rogue waves are as high as a ten storey building (nearly 200 meters)

Quotes

1)     “What are you doing ? Thinking; What about you ? Thinking; What are we thinking ?”

2)     “Ladies & Gentlemen, we are not exactly sure what has happened. But we think that the ship has been struck by what is called a rogue wave. They are rare, they are unpredictable, and they are lethal.”

Oops-

Didn’t notice any goofs.
