Before buying my first DVD player, I spent some time researching it on the net. I was interested to buy a Sony one. But in most of the sites, I came across praises of Philips DVD players.

Armed with this knowledge, I went to a nearby retailer, Pai electronics, Bangalore. There, the salesman introduced me to a variety of players including Sony, Onida, LG Philips etc. Once I saw the 727, I could not take my eyes off this beauty. I've never seen a slimmer one than this. But as the saying goes, ''Never get carried away by the looks'', I asked the person to put the beauty into action. She had to compete with an LG and an Onida player (I do not remember the model nos.). Here she proved that she one with brains too.. I did not wait long when the sales person told me that this particular model is on promotional sales. The player was selling for 9K.

This player is a gem in playing scratched discs (DVDs as well as VCDs). It played all the VCDs without any disturbances (which was giving me troule in my VCD player). This has a built in dolby decoder, which allows me to connect it directly to an amp, without a decoder. The only inconvenience, which I had is, My VCD player allows me to skip the time interval on what I select, say 8 mins. I could not find this functionality in this player.

A good player which gives value for the money U spent.

I had a small issue with the player. One fine morning the player was not working. I called up the service center in Bangalore. They sent me a tech. the next day. He figured the problem to a burned diode, which was spoiled because of a power surge. He adviced me, not to keep the player in Stand by when not in use. According to him, even the use os a spike suppressor will not protect the players from power surges.
