It was while I was watching cricket that I saw this ad for the first time. What I felt was a mixture of emotions- Disgust , amusement, annoyance etc etc.
I don’t know whether to call the
ad maker creative or gross. Since creativity is defined as presenting something new-perhaps exclusive to the world. This since it is linked with a commercial should be focused with a purpose to reach out to an audience. Since it comes from someone as Heavyweight as Pepsi , I expected it to be effective.
That’s too much of since’s in my writing which kind of irritates isn’t it?
This is what exactly happened to me as I repeatedly watched this ad. Too many lips coming out of nowhere. Very easily an ad with an underlying sexual theme.
It starts with the grotesque lip navels of the beach girls. The perfect washer board abs wriggle with the jingle…Love your bubbles Pepsi !
Sharukh ultimately has a worthy challenger…
Next comes the guitar whose strings burst with delight at the sight of Bubbly.
The gross which hits out at you again is the ultra low underwear peeping abs of the model with the guitar.
Elvis and stadium lights follow next. However it’s a Elvis doll car dangler and the stadium lights sound like Amitabh.
Amitabh saying rather imploring….’tell your mummy pappa Bubbly I wanna be your Man’??? We all know the megastar deserves better.
And O my God…the tomato in the burger who gets the scolding from Khan himself…’Kahan Kahan se Mu utha ke chale aate hai’
Which means that anyone who is so crazy about Pepsi is a dork. Irony which hits you.
‘Sirji mera chance’…Wo that really had turned Viru red.
The gate into the dark is the finale with the car gulped down with the actor letting out a scream of alarm.
I overheard the meaningful interpretations….
Bare bellies of bikini clad babes –Its summer time so dont forget your Pepsi .
Singing guitar –travel/ music masti and hobbies and making Pepsi your companion.
The stadium light wanting Pepsi reminded one of the cricket season and reminded them of having Pepsi while watching the cricket.
The singing burger signified that eating out is a fashion and since this is a holiday season, people would eat out more. While doing that not to forget Pepsi.
The hidden cricketer in the pocket was shut up and a dig at the model of the rival Coke.
Now this is my interpretation not forgetting Pepsi’s insecticide days.
Its only good enough to fascinate inanimate objects like guitar, doll, light, pocket or burger. The only living element the singing navels have been chucked off. Remember that most of the objects shown actually represent a void or hole. So Pepsi is good only for that.
The jingle is surely a hit especially with the lil ones and the poll on our site www.batchmates.com showed that the ad was better than the other Coke Amir ad.
But can you disagree it’s a rustic song sung to a person(Bubbly) charming for his/her flatulence(Bubbles) ?
As far as attracting attention it succeeds. So what that its grotesque. Can we forget the outrageous United colors of Benetton and Calvin Klein ads.
Alls fair in love, War and Ad commercials Huh?
But Be my lover Bubbly???
Shouldnt it be I am your lover....
