Seems - Subhash Ghai’s Midas touch got the curse of all malicious celestial objects across the universe. Oh, well - this movie is released under the banner of Mukata Arts (belongs to
Subhash Ghai).
Movie buffs were quite perturbed for a while due to the tussle between multiplex owners and production banner. But alas, the new releases continue to leave them with horrid experience. When well known story / script writers are venturing to Film Direction - it is quite natural to expect a decent enough script. But alas, Paritosh Painter, the Script Writer and Director of this flick, {also, the creative mind behind the Screen Play / Script of Dhamaal } was simply trying to splash insipid goo of concocted Khichdi which is enough for movie buffs to rely on alternate source of entertainment.
The advertisement reveal that the movie is an adaptation of a popular theatrical drama but many good old Marathi Movie lovers might not have forgot the popular comedy "Ashi Hi Banwa Banwi" directed by Sachin. I remember, watching a serial starring Mehmood in DD with similar theme during childhood.
The story is revolving around typical losers with average intellect who resort to follies, representing the agonies of "Great Indian Diaspora". Well, this is not the central theme but just a frivolous attempt to find reason to transport the entire cast and crew to Pataya, the sex capital of the world (Of course, Pataya of Thailand).
You have a cook, script writer, salesman of car and architect joining them later (Shreyas Talpade, Javed Jaffrey, Ashish Chowdhary and Vatsal Seth). Three of them (except the architect who joined later) lose their job and was thrown out of the home by the house owner "Kiska" (Asrani).
Their search for home ended up with a crazy sardarji Ballu (Johney Lever), who was incidentally the former employer of Shreyas Talpade. His wife (character played by Delnaz Paul) tries to entertain you with much tried out grammatical gimmicks / pronunciation circus (eg - Welding means Wedding, Foreplay means Four Plays ---- So on). The Punjabi / Bengali accent of the couple are enough to test your level of patience .
You need some hilarious situation, right? Yeah - so, here the house owner got a condition! They will not rent out the house to unmarried men. So what - Javed Jaffrey and Shreyas Talpade became women! Feel like laughing?
Okay - all of them got pairs also during the course of the movie (Neha Dhupia, Celina Jaitley, Ria Sen and Sayali Bhagat). Also, you have a Don (brother of Johney Lever) who is trying to make you laugh with his stammering / stuttering and replacing "R" with "L" (incidentally, this is the way in which a typical Thai way of pronounciation). Never saw Chunkey Pandey in such a pathetic role. Inder Kumar was also introduced as assistant to Chunkey that is sufficient to accelerate our irritation in geometric progression. I should also remember good old Paintal with Dhoty, trying his level best to entertain with Madrasi accent.
So, a bit of misunderstanding, confusion, roller coaster rides ----- and climax got characters right from Osama Bin Laden , Shehensha, Krish, Spider Man, Umrao Jan ----- God, I don’t have words to appreciate the marvellous creative head who proposed this idea.
If rip roaring laughter riot is reported at any theatre - that might be out of sheer frustration of movie buffs or producers might have engaged "professional ticklers".
Music - Sajid - Wajid might have taken it easy. I am not able to remind any tunes so far. That says it all.
Cinematography -Selvakumar did his job but I am sure, the scenic beauty of Pataya and the monuments of Bangkok are not captured well. I have worked in Bangkok and have been to Pataya and Phuket and hence could swear on it with authenticity.
Editing - If the entire movie if goofed up, what is there to ensure continuity and flow. But yes, Manish More did his job.
In short, the summer disappointment continues.
Ofcourse, this is better than Kal Kisne Dekha but won’t entertain you like 99.
