The first time I set my foot on the snowy path that led to the five-kilometre trek around Nathatop, located a little wayside from Patnitop, the prime tourist destination of Jammu region, it felt as if clouds had taken a day off from the sky above and reached the earth to create a dream destination for the nature lovers.

Although, the designer shoes were of no use and my friends and I had to let go of the same and don long gumboots to prevent snow from getting into our feet, the discomfort was worth it.

The whole mountainside was awash with snow, which was as high as five feet, so that when you set your foot, it went all the way down to the base, making you feel as if you are gliding your way through mounds of clouds.

It was January 13, 2005 and it had been three days since the snowfall had occurred, which made the climate not so cold.

The only minus point in the whole snow-walk was that there was no proper place to sit around and enjoy the landscape, which was green, white, blue in colour, all at once. As a result, we all had to sit on the snowy surface, which, mind you, is not such a nice experience. Moreover, in the frenzy to go snow walking, we all had worn, not so warm clothes. Therefore, next time, whenever we go to Nathatop, we have decided to wear woolens as well as practice walking around in gumboots so that we trip over lesser.

Although, nature is hardly biased towards anyone in particular, still the walk around Nathatop is highly recommended for the young and the strong since it is not comfortable for the aged people. But that is not to say that the elders cannot sit back and enjoy from a distance.
