I brought 4 paper boat drinks so I could write about them, aam rass, jamun kala khatta, jal jeera and aam panna.
now before I talk about these drinks and specifically about aam panna, I will need to talk a little bit about myself or I will not be able to do justice to this review.
Over the last many years, I have not only severely cut down on added sugars, but I have also developed a craze for good oils, good fats, nuts and seeds.
Once you start to wean off sugar and start using sweetness by way of cherries, berries, mangoes, dates, figs and you know what I mean, use natural sugars ie fructose. your skewed sense of sweetness diminishes as you relish the natural taste .
After a while if you are given anything with too much added sugar, its almost a taste shock, if you do not believe me one may try to wean off sugar and try this . Your taste buds get so sensitive to added sugars that you know instantly as it will feel like a surge of sweetness that's intolerable . Its a little sickly.
All the paper boat drinks I have mentioned tasted otherwise great, spicy and tangy but it clearly felt, that they have oodles of added sugar. The best of the lot is jamun kala khatta, followed by aam rass and aam panna .
I can tell you all, your sweet senses have been skewed like mine had been for decades, almost all my life barring the last few years .Only once you cut down refined sugars, you will really appreciate natural sweetness a lot and develop a disgust for extra sweetness and you will be more sensitive than anyone else to test it .
I must have said this almost dozens of times in my reviews now, that it makes me feel guilty of repetition, but for the benefit of those who are reading me first time, sugar is not a health food, sugar is a drug that has potential for abuse as its highly addictive and we must break our sweet obsession with added sugar and keep it under 6 teaspoons or 24 grams a day, at all costs.
If my words and verdict counts for anyone .paper boat products are sweet like crazy because of added sugars . Otherwise since they use lemon, spices and condiments, they feel different .
Aam panna has some traditional wisdom, its a temperature buster, a body coolant, digestive and anti dyspepsia with the goodness of raw mangoes and lemon, be sure you are getting a good share of vitamin C, that is an immunity builder.
As my love for sugars was diminishing my love for good fats was turning into an obsession . I started to sweeten my stuff with sugar alternatives like figs, dates, stevia, jaggery and more, I started to collect oils like a stamp collector, filtered cold pressed oils like mustard, sesame and groundnut, cows desi ghee, the extra virgin olive oils, pure olive oils, coconut oils, cold pressed and virgin, coconut cream, coconut milk(these are all fats)- I just had a virgin pincola with pineapple juice and 100ml coconut milk, to counter the sweet component, there is a lot of coconut oil on my head and my face right now as I type.as I said it's an obsession I don't wanna rid myself of.
Kashmiri walnuts kernels without shells and vacuum packed that I ordered from ebay will be home tomorrow in all probability and pistachio I ordered today off amazon India will be here in 3-4 days . Cashews are almost always at home .These are all good sources of fats, they are proven brain tonics and help in alzheimer's disease, dementia, add, adhd etc .
Sugar on the other hand is a sure shot brain cell killer . While the former is heart protective and makes you lose stubborn fat, the latter does the opposite, while the former douses inflammations the latter flares it . While good fats signal early satiety, sugar deludes your hunger and interferes with the satiety signals and you end up eating more .
I don't know why it's so hard to get. I hope and pray we all can see this, just try it for a few weeks and see the difference, it's a major .
Though the drink is priced at Rs 30, I paid just 19 at d'mart. I also feel it should only sell at 19 and that should be the MRP. @30 I would rather have a tender coconut drink instead, in my area for that price we get mega sized coconuts . Most of the drinks are mainly flavoured with very little actual fruit pulp and there is no justification to charge as much .
Btw I love sweetness in my life too, when I feel like it I reach out for raisins and dates, simple.
I practice what I preach, and my knowledge is simply not bookish or google-ish for the sake of writing reviews as I was once accused by the only guy to distrust me on Ms. yet another felt or hinted the same when he said, "i wonder how much research have you done, before writing all this " . =Pls check the 2 screenshots that maybe give you an idea that, I mean every word I say, its not for name sake its my life style.=
