I first used Pantene in 1992 or so when I was in high school. That was when it was a 2 in 1 shampoo and treatment conditioner. For extra conditioning you could also buy an additional Pantene conditioner.
I loved the 2 in 1, because ordinarily the 2 on 1 hair products do not offer enough conditioning. Pantene Pro-V left my hair healthy and shiny. It was soft to the touch and easy to comb. I also liked the subtle scent. It reminds me of the old Head and Shoulders smell. Clean, not flowery or too heavy a perfume.
Now they have changed the formula completely. It has this overpowering scent that takes some getting used to. Also, they have different formulas instead of just for normal, dry, oily, and colour treated. They have formulas like Classic Clean and Hydrating Curls. They have 2 in 1 formulas, but they seem to not contain as much conditioner as they used to. They mainly have separate shampoos and conditioners now instead of touting the 2 in 1.
I was a regular user of Pantene Pro-V, so when they switched the formula, I figured I would stay loyal. Since, I had used the 2 in 1 for dry and damaged hair, the new formula that was supposed to be comparable was Hydrating curls. I thought this was great since I have thick curly hair anyway. WRONG! Pantene messed up when they changed the formula. My once soft and shiny hair was now frizzy and dry even after using the hydrating curls conditioner PLUS the leave-in conditioner. The hydrating shampoo also dried out my scalp and caused quite a bit of dandruff and excess hair shedding. Needless to say, I quit using Pantene after that. Now I use Garnier Fructis, which you can see I have reviewed. I just hope the Garnier people do not try to improve the formula and make me have to again search for a good shampoo.
