I have been a satisfied owner of a Panasonic GD 75 which I bought in the grey market for Rs 6500 around four months back. Heard you can get it for around 6000 now.
Features
Brawn
.Size-Quite small with 106x46x8mm with inbuilt antenna
.Weight-82 grams with the battery. Not that you can’t carry anything heavier but sure helps if it is light.
.Battery-650 mAh which gives good standby and talk time
.Screen-good sized blue backlit, which allows 5 lines of text to be displayed at a go
.Keypad-Well spaced keys to allow fast input. Especially helpful to people with large fingers. Has a very user friendly 5 way joystick navigation just like a mouse (as in computer not the real one!)
Brains
.Ringtones-20 predefined, 2 downloadable, 1 for composing your own melody. Hark all you Mozarts and Yannis. BTW the tones are polyphonic so that you don’t have to listen to a phone that shrieks like a cat gone mad. Has a vibration setting so that people don’t start dancing in the office if it rings. Helpful in meetings when you got to keep it on to receive a call from your better half.
.Messaging-supports concatenated SMS i.e. you can send and receive long sms which will be broken into a series of messages. T9 input for faster typing.
.Games- Only a racing and a ball game which bores you stiff after a while. If you are an avid gamer, I suggest that you buy a Sony game console.
.Phonebook-Can store 200 numbers apart from what you can do so in your SIM card.
.Alarm- can be set for 4 different timings. You can set it to ring every 5 min in the morning so that you wake up for sure. Helpful for lazy bums like me.
Apart from all these things it has a calculator, voice ringer, voice dialing, currency converter, WAP browser, voice memo, scheduler and a lot of crap which 90% of people don’t use but want to brag that their phone has them.
The phone is very good in reception and transmission. The signal capture is fabulous.Even in basements and lifts.
Crib…crib…crib…
The phone keeps blinking when I get a call, which makes it difficult to see the number. Wonder if I have set the phone wrongly or is everyone who owns this model faces the same problem??? Shudder!!! Keeping my fingers crossed that I don’t mix up my GF with my mom when she rings.
No GPRS, no infrared port to connect to my comp, no interchangeable covers blah…blah…Well if I wanted all those then I should have gone for a top end model. Alas my company doesn’t believe in giving phaltu money so I have to dream about a Nokia 7210 till then and be happy with what I have.
All in all, this phone gives you a lot of features at a very affordable price. Seems Panasonic phones have never got the credit they deserve. It is a classical case of good product but bad marketing. Hark Panasonic guys…R U hearing? Ramp up your marketing for this nifty product of yours.
Tringg…tringg…ooops my phone is ringing… bye folks
