Out of the Box is a childrens Library and Activity Centre, in JP Nagar, 7th Phase, near Brigade Millenium. The library caters to all age groups, from babies to teens. It has a decent collection of books, but as always, no book collection can ever be exhaustive and therefore, there's always scope for more.
The library is housed in a spacious building and there's ample space for kids to sit and read. The first floor has the activity centre, where there are activities like painting, art & craft etc. on certain days of the week. As my child hasn't participated in any of these, I can't comment on them.
The library is computerized so issuing / returning books is a breeze - no register entries / signatures, only bar codes and scanners. All books are neatly covered and in excellent condition.
One of the highlights - at least for me - is the complete Asterix and Tintin collections, which were a great hit(for me, not my child!).
The AV collection, however, is quite poor. There are only a few DVDs / VCDs. Given the range of Kids CDs / DVDs available nowadays, this is definitely an area of improvement.
There are different types of membership. The basic membership lets you issue three items at a time. There's a deposit of 1500(refundable), a charge of 1500 for six months and an initial charge of 500(not refundable). Not exactly cheap, but in my opinion, it's worth it.
If you live in the area, give it a look - you might find it worthwhile.
