Opel Corsa 1.4GSI is a White Elephant. Review on Opel Corsa 1.4 GSI

I bought an used Opel corsa 1.4GSI - Sep-2005, Odometer:55, 000kms eight months back. When I took the test drive, the car engine was very smooth like Honda city and the features like Power steering, Power window, Center lock, etc., which were impressed me to buy such a White Elephant.

After the purchase, the car gave me the poor mileage of 8kms (city) & 11kms(Highway) with AC on (without AC 2Kms more but engine temperature goes to higher level!!). The car bumper started to hit each and every speed-brake and the pathhole due to the low ground clearance (not suitable for Indian roads). This caused my front bumper fixed with bolt & nut (refer the Pic-1) but looked ugly.

The car got very stiff Gear Shift and hard clutch (but the Reverse gear must engage with the tiny clutch fitted on the bottom of gear shift knob, that's makes different from other cars). But the engine is really very smooth, and even in high speed we can know answer for what is called Great German engineering?, because the engine-stability in high speed and precise braking without any jerking. This is more important to avoid major accident.

This car’s features are now outdated fashion. Because, nowadays even a new small(hatch back) car has so many new features(like power streering, tubeless tyre, etc.) and advanced safety standard. So it is not good to say about this opel corsa car has power window, power steering etc.

The spare parts are very expensive and need to wait for 3 or 4 weeks or sometime 1 or 2 months. There is no authorized service center to take care this car(GM service is very expensive). Normally sedan type car should have more leg room than hatch back car, but this car rear seat space is very cramped comparing to other sedan type cars. More over the car painting is not good as it is easy to get rusty on side and roof top side. The car has big luggage/boot space.

Due to the poor mileage, I consulted with a mechanic about switch over to LPG, but he strongly advised me that “Sell this Car as soon as possible” otherwise it will eat up your pocket. And he told me that this car model engine comes with "E-Tec", so the LPG may not be suitable for this type of engine technology and eat up another Rs.20, 000 as a LPG fitting charges. So I sold this white elephant last month with a huge loss.

When u buying this kind of second hand car make sure about the Cost/Price, Service, Resale value, availability of Spare parts and fuel economy.
