With the increasing popularity of several e-commerce portals, we are now heavily inclined to online shopping. These portals leave no stone unturn to grab the public attention with several lucrative offers and deals, super deals, happy hours, deal of the day etc. Whenever I open the my english daily, the first page is often occupied by big, attractive advertisements  of any popular eCommerce site.

I made my first online shopping in the year 2005 from Rediff shopping, and later I did my shopping from sites like flipkart, jabong, amazon, ebay, myntra, yepme to name a few.

Now, I have to admit that, these portals are really at best to grab our attention and interest to the products listed on these sites.

Whenever, I start searching for a stuff, the listing is awesome in most cases. Images used on these shopping sites are bright, high definition and catch your eyes. But, as they say "All that glitters is not gold". this year old proverb applies to most of the stuffs sold online.

Be it casual t shirts, jeans, weight loss aid, home appliances, watch, mobile accessories, they seldom match my imagination when I receive the product physically. The images on these sites are really great and compel us to imagine high. But, the in reality most of the stuffs are not at all at par with the image and description.

Just go to flipkart or amazon, and read the customer reviews. You will get an idea what I exactly mean.  A sense of dis satisfaction reflected on most of the reviews . and I think this is reality.

Now, I am sharing a real story. I had gifted a nice saree( price Rs. 1600) to my elder sister staying in another city. I liked the color of the saree and was satisfied with the quality too reading the product description, but the product was not at all worth value! My elder sister was just shocked to know the price and in any local market in Delhi, Kolkata, Bangalore or Chennai, I would get a far better stuff spending Rs.1600.

I can write several more real experience and products are always below at par!

So, if I compare about product quality, physical stores are far far better. I can rely on e -commerce sites just for branded products such as mobile, TV etc, else I could only rely on them for some low cost kids items, or innovative stuffs. I can not rely on them on everything.

Books are the ideal things for me to order online, but often I do get a book at much discounted price from my college street market even covering my communication cost. Still I order books online nowadays as it is surely a time save for me!

So, honestly speaking, online shopping has been a mixed experience for me, and Indian eCommerce sites have a long long way to go . if they want to a real alternative of physical store. like in western countries.
