I still remember that day in the year 2001 - me and my lil bro were discussing! rather debating about thenecessities and luxuries. We had just walked out of the shadow of my elder cousin with whom we stayed for good 5 years in Noida. All we could call "our stuff" was nothing but 3 bags full of cloths, a cell fone, good number of CD's & cassettes, a bike and a guitar. We took a one room flat in sector 22 to start. Although we were very happy as if we had won the world! - since it was the day when we really felt like we were independent for the first time and damn happy too.

The first question which was coming to our minds together was not what and how we will survive, as I was in a job and he was on the lookout. Food was not an issue as there were too many joints nearby, neither was entertainment an issue as we had a good terrace and there were too many things going on in the park right across the road- at all times to see, moreso my bro was and is a master with Guitar and plays all kinds of songs and sometimes his own creations too. The only thing we were concerned at that particular time was "WHO WILL WASH OUR CLOTHS?".As were and are really bad at stuffing our worn cloths at a corner of the room and let them be there for good. There came my boss for our rescue and suggested that why dont we go for a washing machine?

Noida being an upcoming area at that time was booming with electronics market too, straight we landed in Onida Savak's Factory Outlet as they were offering a very good price and choose this cute little semi automatic washing machine with capacity 5.5 KGS. Which lasted 5 hard years and is still standing tough at a corner of our terrace. The exchange price it was fetching me at this time was a meagre 400/- but the guy who came in for the new machine's demo gave me a good deal by offering 1200/- for that working machine.

========================================================================

That was the past- And now lets talk about the new possession. It is a 7 KG Semi Automatic,which they call "Onida Hydrofall". I never knew what exactly they meant by it till I saw it working, it has some 4 water falls at the four corners of the machine, while you wash the cloths it showers water over the cloths, it looks cool and yeah it keeps the cloths tumbling too which come to the top of the tub while being washed. It really looks funny to see those 4 waterfalls while the cloths are being washed. But thats a good idea.

Machine is cute, very slim but still big in size. As we went to the shop - I found this one to be the cutest one, in looks as well as functionality wise too, it was the only machine which with a full Fibre body, as our little princess is too little and has already started crawling - we thought this would be the right choice as there wont be any issue of any kind of current shurrent.(The older one had an Iron Body). I was surprised to see even LG, Samsung, whirlpool and even IFB too had an Iron body which does starts rusting after a certain time.

It is light in weight, and both the tub covers(Washer as well as drier) are transparent and you can see whats going on inside while the machine is running. In power front too - it has the most powerfull motor in its segment as we checked in the other machines pamplets too. Drier too is of quite big size. Later I agreed with the power thing as the dryer was real fast and cloths tend to come out dry pretty faster than I expected.

Functionwise it doesnt have much to offer as its a semi automatic and one will not even require a demo to understand them. Simple 15 minutes washing time and 5 minutes drying time, Washer has a buzzer which goes off the moment first cycle complets. Two washing modes(Gentle and Normal) and same switch can be used to drain the machine too. One of the good feature offered in this machine is the water inlets, this one has two water inlets - one on the either side of the machine for washing and for dryer - they have given it separate - so you can do both things at one time - irrespective of the others one where you can do one thing at a time. Outlet too has option - you can either keep it on the left side or can shift it to the right side but for that u need to tilt the machine and change the pipe setting from the bottom.

I dont understand why- but wifey was never in favor of Fully Automatic - first you know female mentality - "Its expensive", second "you cannot use the washer twice" as in a fully automatic machine - you can only put cloths once and they will come out dry. So the Semi Automatic is econimic too. Good to know that.

Machine has wheels too - so you can drag it wherever you want it.

Servicewise I will rate Onida as good as had used it for good 5 years in Noida as well as Hyderabad and it was never an issue, the day you call up the customer care, next day guy will come in and fix up the issue. Whereas one of my close friend has a Whirlpool and another has an IFB - both are not so happy about the 6 monthly service thing as well as about the break down calls. Onida never gave me any problems - dont know about the new one - lets see how long this one lasts. Although its under warranty for first two years and later you can give an AMC to them and they will take care of all the things on an yearly basis.

Want to know what else my lil bro wanted? once we got the machine? wait till I post my other one.:)
