Of Course I love you: Book Review

Durjoy Datta is someone who knows the pulse of Indian youth and packs stuff accordingly in such a way that, his writing style makes the reader, especially youth, feel the book close to their lives. The daily chores and activities of a college student, his adolescence pump of hormones, feelings and love stories of these days are well covered in his works and, “Of Course I Love You” is no different. The book concentrates on the story of a middle class engineering student by name, Debashish Roy and draws light on his college life, the girls in his life, how the break up of different girls differ accordingly etc. The episodes of his love with Smrithi and its contrast with that of Avanthika had a clear cut difference of how lust differ love! This is where Durjoy Datta makes his mark, the fine line that removes vulgarity. For many, the happenings may seem usual, but the way Mr. Datta packed them, makes the book a good read with a handful of emotions. The book which starts as the usual youth oriented fun filled read, later goes on to be more serious with the final pages of sheer maturity.

Coming to the writing style, Durjoy Datta, though uses a lot of swearing that is common among Delhi youth, takes care about not crossing the limits, the same is the case of love making scenes even! The point where he is excels are the emotional parts. His presentation of emotional sequences require special applause for the nerve pulling effect they have; kudos to the placement of those ‘emotionalized’ monologues in between usual narration in the end portions.

Over all, Durjoy Datta’s Of Course I love You is surely an engaging read for romantic genre lovers; though certain portions seem ordinary, the scent of emotion and close-to-the-heart feel makes the book enterprising
