This is a long debate in International Politics that whether nuclear weapons are to conduct war or to stop war. This book by Arpit Ranjain is based on the theory of Nuclear Deterrence and give some sort of pessimistic view on the proliferation of the nuclear weapons. In South Asia, India and Pakistan are nuclear equipped country. And, after China installing nuclear war heads in Tibet, the southern Asian region has become a nuclear zone of three powerful countries that can destroy one another. Against this backdrop, the author warns New Delhi, Islamabad and Beijing not to fool one another because of having nuclear weapon, it can have a boomerang effect and destroy all of our lives and the region itself.
A question is always there that whether nuclear deterrence works? Is nuclear weapons is for deterrence or for strengthen? The author is trying to mull into these question and gives his idea that restraining the production of nuclear is better choice for our future.
This a good book to study for those who have interest in international politics in general and South Asian politics in particular.
