Hey Friends,

Nothing Lasts Forever is story of three ladies. All three of them are doctors.

Dr. Paige Taylor, Dr. Kat Hunter and Dr. Honey Taft are intern residents at Embarcadero county hospital.

The story makes an impact in the very beginning when it starts with a court room scene where Dr. Taylor is being charged for murdering one of her patients for $ 1 million. But the defense says that she did not murder the patient but it is a case of mercy killing or euthanasia. You might be familiar with this term ? mercy killing, where in when a patient is terminally ill, the doctor can end the life of patient by giving him something that will end his life quickly and relieve him from the further traumas of a painful death.

Well, when I stared the novel I was very thrilled because I though, ?man here is a book that is going to address this highly debatable topic by using fiction?. I was really excited, so excited that I finished this whole book in something 6 hours straight. But in the end it turned out to be routine Sidney Sheldon novel with almost nothing about this debatable topic. But still it was a good entertainer.

After the court room scene the story goes back into the lives of these three ladies. They met in Embarcadero County Hospital, made good friends amongst each other, shared an apartment amongst each other and tell each other about themselves like their lives before coming to the hospital.

They were living happily until their lives got really complicated and Dr. Kat Hunter was killed by her boyfriend. Actually her boyfriend made the murder seem like a suicide but Dr. Taylor was convinced that it is not a murder and she investigated further and finally she proved her boyfriends to be guilty.

And finally the story comes back to the episode of Dr. Taylor, the blames on her for murdering her patient. The story comes to past to present, the same courtroom scene where Dr. Taylor is about to be pronounced guilty because all witnesses and evidences are against her. But the testimony of Dr. Barker, a very reputed cardiac surgeon, under whom Dr. Taylor was training, saved her life and proved that it was an innocent case of mercy killing, that also by consent of patient. Not exactly consent but request because the patient was in last state of cancer and was going to die a very painful death and 5 or 6 days.

Story ends by telling us about all people involved and how their lives and fate turned out to be.

This was another typical Sheldon novel. Fast paced, interesting with lots of twists and turns, a perfect climax and a very good ending. Probably one of the best endings Sheldon has ever managed.

A good read on a relaxed weekend, even good for nighttime or bedtime reading.

Basically a good time pass, typical commercial novel and don?t expect anything other than a commercial time pass. I expected it will be about mercy killing and all but in the end there was nothing about it. Still, despite of the fact that I was initially disappointed but the sheer strength of story made it all go away. Sheldon is perhaps the master story teller, he just know how to do it!!!

Happy Reading,

Mr. Gautam
