My Need :I needed a new phone very much as i had moved to a different state for my higher education.
Being a student ,my Budget was around Rs.3500 -Rs.4000. So without a
doubt
i went to the NOKIA Gallery to check out the phones. SONY did
have some good models but they were expensive and i was a little
reluctant to switch my brand as my 1st cell phone was a NOKIA 8250
which was pick-pocketed by someone in the local Mumbai Trains.
My Options:
There were just 2 phones from Nokia in that Range considering the most cheapest phone NOKIA 1100s manufacturing was stopped and it was no longer available in the market. So my choice was between
Nokia 1108 and
Nokia 2600.
My Choice:
I chose NOKIA 1108 for the following reasons :
1. It was the cheapest phone which was available in the market with a Price tag of Rs. 2800.00 and i also was getting a handsfree speaker for an additional Rs.200. So overall the price was Rs. 3000 with a bill.
2. When you compare it with Nokia 2600 , you will notice except for the dislay , everything is available in Nokia 1108. The only fact that
Nokia 2600 had a color display and FM Radio which were was the differentiating factor. It was priced at Rs. 4000.
Thus the choice was obvious, being a price conscious guy, i did not find it worth investing additional RS.1000 for a color display and FM radio, so i chose NOKIA 1108 as there were no other phones in any other brands stable to meet this price range. All others were above Rs.5000.
Advantages of Nokia 1108:1> The
White Light served as a torch in dark times and has been indeed helpful in those situations which no other phone can offer.
2> Do i need to mention of the
User Interface ? Its once again so simple and easy to use.
3> The
Talk time is amazingingly long like any other Nokia
phones. You charge it and gets charged very quickly and runs for a very
long time. Even after BATTERY LOW signals you can speak for 30 minutes
( All you emergency calls can be met provided u sitch off and switch on
the cell as it boosts additional battery power on start up)
4> Has all the
Basic Extras like calculator, stop watch,
timer , alarm clock , 2 games etc which are not there in other phones
as some of the features are missing.
Disadvantages of Nokia 1108:
1>
Phone Book Memory is just upto 250 contacts. Should be more.
2> After some 16 months of usage , the phone is facing some network problems, where sometimes all the calls keep getting dropped within 30 seconds. The SIM Card was also replaced but to no use.
The Service provider blames it on the phone.
Problem Experience: When i went to the NOKIA CARE CENTRE ; even before inspecting my phone, the service people said that my phone needs a
software upgradation which would cost Rs.250. After that they said it should work fine. However, they could not assure me of no repetitive problems as they said the
warranty for that software is only 1 week ( 7 days ), can you believe that ??? They said they have seen such problems of calls getting dropped in Nokia 1108 Phones after usage of it for some months. Often Happens in the old phones. But the calls get dropped only on certain occasions when the phone is not in a good mood. hahahaa
They suggested i dispose of the phone and buy a new phone as it did not make sense to invest inthe software upgradation. So i did not do any software upgradtion and my hunt for a new phone has begun. Any Suggestions !!!
