What you always wished from QWERTY smartphone...E5. Review on Nokia E5

I bought this camera from the mobile store, sector 22 chandigarh, two weeks ago. Earlier I had Nokia E63 which I used for more than five months.

I never had any significant problem with E63 but I got a very good deal from the mobile storeand I went for a brand new latest QWERTY smart phone from Nokia.

When one talks about any smartphone he or she has a great list of expectation and when it is Nokia few more expectations are added.

A smartphone is full of latest features and one can easily get confused as which manufacturer to choose and what model?

I had three choices for smartphone....

1. Nokia

   
   




2. Samsung

   
   




3. Blackberry

   
   

I personally liked Blackberries but in terms of long term operating life for internet related application like push mail, web surfing and chat one needs to shell out 300-400 Rs per month. But with Nokia and Samsung it is like less than Rs 100 a month.

So left the Blackberries as I am not for merely `show off `. I prefer performance with least investment.

Samsung was too a good choice but for Full QWERTY phones they do not have sufficient models. Though they have some very good Capacitive touch screens smartphones.

Here comes my full smartphone requirement filler from Nokia E5

1. Push Mail >> Very easy to configure. Just put your Mail id and Password after enabling your internet and get going. You can receive your e mails right on your home screen through the user friendly notification. I am able to see attachments and even compose my mail here. Who needs computer?

   
   




2. Web surfing >> The default web browser is good, but the Opera Mobile 11 is too good in this set. Just like surfing on a computer with a small screen. Good speed as it has 256 MB RAM(expandable upto 32 GB) and 600MHz processor.

   
   




3. Camera >> The 5 MP camera is good with a very good user interface to go to Video camera, photo/video editor( editing function is impressive indeed). The video camera with flash is very good. I have attached a small video taken in flashfor your reference.

   
   




4. Wi Fi Connectivity >> too good as it connects easily and no disconnection and very good downloading speed.

   
   




5. Multitasking>> it`s a breeze indeed. I have tasted 7 multitasking at a time... Google Map, yahoo cricket, Opera Mobile, E buddy, Internet Radio,office editor and Mail check. There was no hanging problem at all. A great virtue of this set. Kudos to Nokia Lab.

   
   

There is a long list, but I would like to mention few here....

Applications which make this set a must have.

Netqin Mobile guard>> It keeps this set at original performing condition by deleting temporary and spam files with some additional performance booster functions

Google Map >> This set has Assisted GPS(A-GPS) function and inbuilt map, but I found Google map more friendly. I took my bicycle to roam in the city using the Google map all the way. I felt as if I am a VIP on this earth as I could see my position almost exact with hardly few meters of error. I observed signal fromupto 9 satellitesmaking it a very reliable and enjoyable outdoor tool.

E-Buddy >> this I got through the free OVI site(Nokia exclusive). The chat is so easy from my facebook onlines, though other sites like MSN, Yahoo, G mail also available.

Facebook>> this application is also good.

Internet radio >>It`s inbuilt application and indeed impressive. I used Tata Docomo 2G SIM. But the buffering for the song was very fast and no discontinuation while being played even with multitasking. Thus FM without lead demerit of this set is largely compensated here.

There are infinite applications to suit individual needs on Ovi store.

Computer Sync>> another very good feature which connects the set to my laptop in no time and syncs my photos/videos, contacts, musics, documents etc and a back up for the phone contents. The set acts as a 3G Modemeffectively.

Document editor is a good as we do on our computer, though I tested MS Word only.

Hardware

The phone has very good buildwith good form factor, 3.5 mm audio jackat the top alongwith charger point and USB connector.

The Speaker is at the back side.

The backside has hard steel cover which looks attractive.

The camera lenshas been kept at a lower position to save it from accidental damage.

The keyboard usage is a joy. I proudly can say that my typing speed is as good as computer on this set. It`s UI is indeed praiseworthy when it comes to put some symbols,erasing word,copy paste etc. At the home screen the continuous pressing of Space bar works as a powerful torch light.

I strongly recommend this phone who do not need video call function, though it has one way video call facility.
