Value for Money:

I purchased the Nokia 2112 a few days ago, exchanging it for my old LG Moonlight phone.

I bought it for Rs 2500/- (after exchange). The normal price is Rs 3100/- at the time of writing.

Before going into a lengthy discussion on the features, pros, cons etc of the phone, I would like to tell you why I bought it.

Also we can compare a phone only with respect to its price band, so it is of no use if I say ''it does not have FM etc..''

In other words, my requirements were:

1) A cheap but good looking phone.

2) Good battery life (all LG sets have poor battery life)

3) Easy to use interface (I personally dont like the interface on the b&w sets of samsung.. they are horrible)

4) It has a loudspeaker for group chats (more on this later in the review)

5) I also like that you can change the panels of this phone (like any other nokia phone)

6) I dont use RWorld much, and I really dont like seeing NDTV and Aaj Tak on my phone when I can go home and see it on the TV! This phone is not meant for serious R-World users (its too costly for prepaid users like me)

If your requirements are the same as mine, please go ahead and buy the phone

Features

I do not want to go into the technical details here.

(If you want to see the technical details please visit :

https://relianceinfo.com/Infocomm/Rim/handsets_nokia2112.html)

The one feature that stands out on this phone is its great loudspeaker. After you make a call, all you have to do is to press the top right button twice and a room full of people can talk to the person at the other end.

(It has some nuisance value too! you can call your ''special someone'' and say that you are having a ''personal'' conversation, but at your end half a dozen people could be listening!!!)

The inbuilt ringtones are polyphonic, but melodious. Much much better than the ones you get in LG phones.

SMSing is a joy in this phone, thanks to its good keypad. Get the 55 Rs SMS card and chat free to your heart's content.

It also has an excellent built-in flashlight. pressing the up key activates it. I found it quite useful.

What most people dont know, is that this has a built-in calling card facility , very useful for those prepaid users who use the Reliance India Calling card. (Those prepaid users who don't, please start using it! you can make calls really cheap from the card).

To use a calling card, we prepend *375 to the number. That means most of us either store the number as *375 (then we cant use it for sms) or store the numbers seperately twice (one with *375 and one without)

But in this handset, you can just hold the call button for 2 secs and the words ''card call'' is automatically displayed on the screen and it uses your calling card to call instead of your normal prepaid account.

Drawbacks

It has one drawback: everytime you make a call it will show the place you are in on the screen! you will have to select ''Exit'' (the top right button) every time to access the functions like mute, loudspeaker etc. This is a minor irritant

I would like to say that it contains almost all the features that you would need. Please beware that it does NOT contain the streaming features (ie. you will not be able to see video and audio on RWorld)

Conclusion

To put it in a nutshell, this phone is for people who want a good lower-end value-for-money phone who dont use RWorld too much.

I would recommend it for students (i bought one.. I have still a year to complete my engineering)
