NIRMALA was written in 1927 by munshi premchand in hindi.A serial was also made on this novel which was telecasted by doordarshan.
The story revolves around the lady Nirmala.Who got married to a person whose age is equal to her father.His husband was also a widower.
It tells us marriages of that time when dowry system was on high.female have not earned a good position in the society.There were marriages which has no matches of age in groom and bride.Society was totally dominated by males.It was the time when poverty was too much in society.
The story tells us the behaviour of Nirmala's husband towards her.He has suspicion that her wife has a relationship with his elder son who was in same age group of Nirmala.
here things starts to change his ugly behaviour.At marriage time Nirmala was 15 years old while his husband Totaram(a lawyer)was 35 years old.Totaram eldest son was 1 year older than Nirmala.
Due to suspicion Totaram sent him in a hostel.there his son get ill and caught by tubercolosis.Finally he dies.
