Nilgiris reminds me of Bangalore, home, college and ''the Road''. Brigade Road is where life starts and stops in Bangalore .. or at least it did when I was back home. Studying at St. Joseph's (SJCC), a walk down ''the road'' was nevh an event, but rather a regular feature of one's day ( errr .. not during lecture hrs of course .. hehe).
The one thing I remember quite distinctly was the hustle and bustle at Nilgiris, it stood among the happening joints, but it held its own .. its cafe on the first floor was quite popular too. People just seemed to realise they needed sumfin when they saw Nilgiris and they just kept going in and out. I'd say that's the reason why Nilgiris was/is essential to Brigade Road .. it keeps a leash on the yuppy fanatics with a distinct reminder of the essense of Bangalore which was more family and home oriented than the individual and freespirit oriented status it has acquired in the last decade of tech ''success''!!??
