Pros:
2 inspiring melodies
Cons:
Everything else, especially Those pathetic boyband type songs

Hey guys,

Listened to A R Rahman’s new album ’New’. After a spree of not so impressive music scores, Looks like ARR is getting back toform. Let me rate the songs based on what I
liked. Song: Spiderman - Kunal and Saadhana Sargam. 9/10 Whoa... Now thats is the real blues style into Tamil music.

Who else other than ARR can make such a beautiful composition. Composed in a 6 beat cycle, which fainly reminds me of the song ’black velvette’, spiderman really inspires you to listen to it over and over again. Mainly based on Karnatic/Hindustani Raag - Thilang, the song unfolds to an excellent blues-melody. 3 cheers to Kunal who was last heard in Oh hum dum suniyo re. He (despite his muffled tamil diction) adds great value to this song. Sadhana Sargam as always is in her melodious best in the song. Everything about this song is perfect except the overtly vulgar lyrics. The lyricyst needs a kick on his bu** for the same. therez a lot of difference between sensuality and vulgarity.

Thottaal Poo Malarum - Hariharan,Harini 8.5/10 Well, ARR knows this is the remix generation!!! so here it goes... Modern age tamil trance. What makes this song so novel is the special processing given to the male and female voices. (especially where the lyrics ’iruvar ondraanaal’ in the first verse)Harini sounds awesome in this song. Hariharan disappoints in his aalap in the first interlude, as it sound extremely vague and uninspiring. Beats are peppy and so is the overall orchestration. ARR has composed a song in Raag hindholam after a long time... last one i remember is Maargazhi poove of May madham.

Kumbakonam - Nithyashree,M Vinayagam 4/10 Looks like ARR was forced to compose a folksong for this movie.. :( sadly he does a mediocre job at it this time... ARR has given us great folk songs in the past (aathangara marame, varaagha nadhi, uppu karuvaadu...) The song starts in a very novel fashion but very soon slips to spells of monotony. Nithyashree’s wide mouthed rendition is extremely annoying throughout the song... It again shows Nithyashree cant do nethig more than what she had done for sowkiyama.. of sangamam... as far as the male vocals goes... he has nothing much to do... Overally a forgettable song, nothing impressive about it.

Two ’Engleeees styled songs....’ (new new and if u wanna) I dont even want to talk about them... when i hear these songs... I get the feeling that ARR should go get his head checked. I felt the same way when i hear the ’Kaama Kaama’ song of Enakku 20.... ARR has lost focus to a precarious extent here... he is now using a very very below average rapper Blaaze for songs in all movies, who has an uncanny ability to get on to your nerve with great ease. Sakkara???? Fogget it!! with all respects to him, I think SPB should retire now!!
