S.J.Surya's much hyped 'New'has got released finally after much delays. The film boasts of certain attractions like S.J.Surya debuting as an actor,Simran's last film in tamil(ppl may flock to theatres atleast to see her the last time(!)),and the first release of S.J.S - A.R.R combo. But unfortunately the movie fails miserably in almost all the aspects and one walks out in disgust after watching this insipid creation.

The story is something new to tamil cinema(anyway, title justified to some extent),but the poor and the silly performance by the cast which is nothing but plain hamming,an absolutely let down screenplay makes this film an avoidable venture. The movie is an adults only film, but actually is very much devoid of any explicit content, though double entendres are there in the movie.

The story goes this way...an eight year old boy,who can't withstand his mother's bullying gets transformed into a 28 year old adult(S.J.S) by a scientist(??),but its only a physical transformation, his mind is still of an eight year old boy,Simran(who else?) falls in love with him as per tamil cinema's golden rules of love, and then what happens is the rest ,told horribly with some irritating 'Amma' sentiments thrown in.With such an interesting fictional plot,i expected it to be a real comedy venture, but the narrative that follows fails miserably.

S.J.Surya,the director who made a fabulous debut with 'Vaali',debuts as an actor(one knows the reason now:-) in this film, and his debut is not exactly marked by anything to rave about, but S.J.S does the mandatory tamil cinema things like dancing, fighting reasonably well.Simran looks slim and sexy, but one is left to search the actress in her who made a fantastic mark in movies like 'Kannathil'.In most of the scenes she is too loud and artificial, and that's not comic too.Devayani's character is one which is left to the audience guess, whether she is hysteric, insane or just too possessive, and the worst irritant is that she has dubbed for herself, which adds to the already torturous celluloid experience. The little boy looks cute and energetic and does his job fairly well.Kiran's character is yet another irritant in the movie, she is a Kumbakonam 'Maami',attired in see-through madisars, and her encounters with S.J.S are nothing but plain gimmicks to satisfy the front benchers with no connection to the actual story. The comedy actors, villain are from telugu cinema and the so-called comedy is telugu-cinema style slap-stick one which won't even bring a smile in your face.Manivannan,Aishwarya (with her irritating Raguvaran style dialogue delivery),Karunaas,Janagaraj merely add to the cast list.

A.R.Rahman's score is OK,and suits the situations, but the man as expected gives an horrible background score.'Sakkarai' song's picturisation is OK,but one wonders why it was so irritatingly colour-graded.Other technical aspects has nothing to rave about. The sets look artificial in most of the scenes and that only adds to the agony. The unnecessary fight scene (as per the norms) is just another irritant. And then that....

OK,ok..ppl reading this would have encountered the word 'irritating' many times in this review,so that's my final verdict on this movie.

Watch this movie only if you are very much interested in watching Kiran's belly, else if you are a die-hard fan of Simran and wish to have a final look at her, else three hours of good sleep can do great things to your health and can save you some precious bucks.
