New Empire is one of the Calcutta's oldest Movie theaters that still exists today and is still operational. From time to time it has under gone upgradation and renovation. It is located centrally in Kolkata and is located at Esplanade the heart of Kolkata. It is well connected by metro and roadways. Come comes the vital part. The New Empire being one of the oldest movie theater it lacks the appeal.
When you enter the theater the ambience of the theater is not welcoming because you can feel that this theater is somehow coping with the current market situations and the owners of The New Empire seems to be refusing to upgrade the facilities. It is not tidy and clean. I have been to this theater end number of times because my office is located in Park Street and so I went there when ever a good movie was showcased because their ticket fare was low. As low as 20 rupees at the very top and back of the theater.
Well at the ground tier the prices vary from 80 rupees to 150 rupees and the sitting arrangement is not good but okay. I can recommend this theater for family viewing if someone is not will to pay much but for someone who has the money then this New Empire is certainly not recommended by me. Overall I can say that New Empire is heritage of Kolkata Movie Theaters but it's killing itself by not upgrading the infrastructure and the equipments of the theater. The picture sometimes goes blacked out during the movie is being played. Now the rest can be understood.
