Months ago, I used to wake up in the morning and refuse to believe all that hair on my pillow was mine. But since I sleep alone, I had to face these bitter facts staring at me.

No! Shedding hair
at this untouched age? Although, meri twacha se meri umar ka pata hi nahi chalta (translation unnecessary - nothing important - at best ignored), what would happen if I lose my hair?

On hearing my grumbles about my hairfall, (I have this uncalled for habit of publicising my woes to anyone who half cares to listen) my Mallu neighbour Jayamani, advised me to use Neelibhringadi Coconut Oil

At sea, I asked her to repeat the name haltingly, one syllable at a time, and she offered this simple tutorial, that I must urge all interested readers to undertake as they read.

She: Repeat after me, Nee Me: Nee
She: Lee Me: Lee
She: Bhrin Me: Bhrin
She: Gaa Me: Gaa
She: Dee Me: Dee
She: Good, now say it all together
Me: Neelibhringadi. Wow, I did it!

I always repeat names that I like, hence this review will have Neelibhringadi Oil finding many mentions. It is, after all, a review on Neelibhringadi Oil and I hope I would be excused.

Tuitions over, it was now time for further investigations.
“Ok Jaya, tell me more!”
Jayamani informed that Neelibhringadi Coconut Oil is Kerala’s well known secret for arresting hair fall and resulted in thick, lustrous hair that remained dandruff free. Its a medicated herbal oil in gingelly (sesame) and coconut oil base, and is….”

“Yess! That’s what I want. Where do I buy it? Have I to go all the way to God’s Own Country?” (actually, I didn’t mind that)

Poda piraandhan! It is available at the nearest Kerala Ayurvedic Pharmacy outlet, or even at any other Ayurveda outlets. The best brand is from Kalan Pharmaceuticals, Nellayi. It works wonders and ….”, she went on.

That was it! Come hailstorms or typhoons, now I just had to be in the possession of a bottle of Neelibhringadi Oil. I thought to myself (sometimes I do that also), “Jayamani has a point… Notice the hair quality of Mallu women and men. In fact, I don’t see many bald Mallu men, except perhaps that villain Gopi.”

By evening, Neelibhringadi Coconut Oil arrived home and the first thing I noticed was the beautiful woman on the pack with her large eyes and heavy hair. The oil was dark green in colour, had a somewhat heavy consistency and was not perfumed. Its natural smell gave away the herbs that it contained and was in no way offensive, yet I won’t go outdoors with it on me. Jayamani had added that goat’s milk was used to process this oil. I scanned over the pack claim that went thus:-

An age Old Ayurvedic Secret for Black & Clusterous Hair. Daily Application of this Hair Oil before Bath is specially indicated in:
# Hair falling
# Dandruff
# Premature grayness
# Poor hair growth
# Excessive heat and burning of eyes and head
Complements by enhancing beauty if regularly used as hair-oil

I have found all this to be true

-----------------------------------------------------------
Before, when I used to see myself brushing my teeth in the mornings, my head used to resemble the nest of a lazy and unaesthetic mynah. Two months of regular usage of Neelibhringadi Coconut Oil has made my head look neater and organized.

Moreover, those numerous strands have disappeared from the pillows in the mornings. So where did they fly away? I’m no Sherlock Holmes but could elementarily conclude that they were still on my head and will remain there for years to come. Ah, bliss!

Neelibhringadi Oil is prepared in accordance to Sahasrayogam. (Now, what’s that? Allow me to give gyaan) which is a codified form of indigenous systems of heath care in Kerala, based on an amalgamation of the best of Vedic knowledge, ancient tribal wisdom and family medicine passed down the ages. The bottle of 200ml is available for Rs. 77/-

I apply the oil at night (whenever I remember and more importantly feel like) and wash it off in the morning with some mild ayurvedic soap. Since I have this debatable belief that shampoos would strip off whatever effects Neelibhringadi Oil had brought about overnight.

Anyway, washing it off in the morning is advisable because the oil is heavy and I don’t want to go outdoors looking like a Banwarilal Chaubey.

The oil stains. This is something to be careful of though the stains aren’t permanent.

Otherwise, my hair has also become so shockingly black and shiny that you will have to wear sunglasses to face me (Sorry, I can’t contain getting carried away at times. Kindly apply 95% discount to such statements. On second thoughts, 85%)

Another welcome effect of Neelibhringadee Oil is the soothing relaxed feeling it brings about. No wonder most Mallus seem so unruffled, especially my neighbours. Besides their inherent patience, the regular application of Neelibhringadee Oil helps them put up with neighbours like me effortlessly. Jayamani later told me that there are specific hair oils for treating insomnia, dandruff etc. that had even more twisted names. I’ll also use those as and when I have the need to.

Till then I’m way too thrilled at having acheived a cessation of my hair loss after discovering Neelibhringadee Coconut Oil - the Mallu secret for Nalla Mudi (good hair)
