Well I was big fan of Nandini Food Chain from the time I started living in Bangalore(From last 12 yrs) and very closely observed growing of Nandini Restaurant Chain in Bangalore. I was happier when Nandini opened in Kathriguppe since it was very close to my place. But gradually things started which no customer will find it pleasant. Now I have completely stopped going there.


Once I visited Nandini around night 9:30PM along with my wife and ordered some food and the service manager said all the foods(except Andhra Meals) are over since it is late. We were disappointed but thought maybe it was weekend so food might have got over so we ordered Andhra Meals. Food quality was ok but not the best considering my previous experience in Nandini Restaurant.


Second horrible incident happened almost after another week. I went to same Nandini Restaurant along with my family and few friends. It was around 9PM only. We looked into the menu and decided some food to order but the service manager said those are not available. I asked him the reason and he bluntly said its late and so its over. When I said it is only 9PM then he said it is weekend and there is heavy rush so it got over. Again we ended up ordering whatever it was available. We did not go to other restaurant since there is hardly any good restaurant close to our house and also we considered the rush during weekend and the wait we have to do in another restaurant.


Third incident was a bit shocking to me. After almost a month, it was friday and I was on leave from my office since my wife was not well. During afternoon, I decided to order some food on phone and asked the person that keep it ready and I will collect from the restaurant directly. When I ordered some food, they again said it is not available. To me it was shocking, since it was neither weekend or nor to late to order. I did not bother even to ask them the reason for non availability of the food. I ordered some other item. The person on phone asked me to come after 20mins. When I reached the restaurant, I found out they have not even placed the order. So I had to repeat the order once again. I decided to use to toilet and I have shocked to see the lack of cleanliness in the loo. Simply horrible. I took my food after waiting for almost 20 mins there and when I reached home, I found out raita and gravy were missing. Disappointing experience.


I stopped going to Nandini after this incident. But then came my in-laws to Bangalore this month and they told me that they want to taste some south Indian dishes. I was planning to visit some other hotel but my wife told me since her mom have some health issue, she does not like traveling too much distance in car. So again ended up going to Nandini Restaurant. This time we went around 8:40PM itself and took a table for 6 person. Air-conditioner was leaking water from top and when we told the manager there, he said no other 6 person table is vacant. So looking no other options, we have to adjust there itself. We ordered few items and the manager wrote it but I asked him to check in kitchen if it is available or not. He came back after 5mins and said foods are available. We waited for around 20mins and the manager came back saying some items are not there since it is over. I was very embarrassed since I have visited with guests. I told him to take me to senior manager. And I was taken to senior manager and I explained him my situation. I told him clearly that the person who took the order  checked in kitchen and came back saying food is available. Then after making us wait for almost half an hour, he is saying food it not there. But the person who took the order, intervened and said I was informed within 10mins. The whole discussion turned into argument and many people were watching us. It was very embarrassing situation. The senior manager told that "Sir, please wait for another 10mins and we will have your food prepared and served to you". I was embarrassed but yet happy. We waited for another 15mins but no food came. So again I went to that senior manager and he asked me to wait and he went to kitchen to check it. When he came back, he informed me food cannot be prepared since ingredients are over. This was all bullshit. Too much insulting. I argued with him that being a senior manager, how can he commit something which he cannot fulfill. He bluntly said when there is no ingredients, how can they prepare food and serve. All these while it was almost an hour of time wasted. I again told him he could have informed me earlier. He said he didn't make me wait for long and I want, I can order something else(which is available) or he cannot help me further. It was very insulting and I was embarrassed and angry. It was late I was worried since it was almost 9:45PM and by the time I go to another restaurant, it maybe closed.


I called one of my friend he said try MASALA RESTAURANT in Chikallasandra as it is opened till 11:30PM. I have been to MASALA almost 3yrs back but was not too impressed but I had no other choice so I went there. It was around 10:05PM. The manager asked us to wait for 20mins since all the table were occupied. We waited for 10mins and manager took us to a vacant table. We ordered the food and it came within 15mins. And I was surprised that the food quality was improved a lot. Food were costly but looking at service experience, food taste and quality, it is definitely value for money.


CONCLUSION:


1.  In Nandini restaurant, even if the table are vacant, most of the time we have ask someone to clean it so that we can seat.




  1. I feel, in Nandini Restaurant, they do not prepare may items which are there in menu. So they should not include it in menu itself rather than giving rush hour or weekend excuses.




  2. Respect part is missing for the customers. We are not beggars, we are here to pay for quality food. So respect the customers.




  3. Ambiance: For god sake, keep the table clean. Air-Conditioner in proper condition. Repair the loo.




  4. Finally hire polite employees, not the one who insult customers. When you make some commitment, try to fulfill it. When a senior manager does not abide by his words, what can we expect from junior employees.
