Cinematography:

I went to watch this movie mainly for Akshay Kumar. He is the arguably the only actor in recent times who has improved his comedy skills very much and has become a very good entertainer. His comic timing is amazing. I went to this movie expecting his ‘Mujhse Shaadi Karogi’ comic magic.

I should say I am a bit disappointed. The movie does not give a lot of scope for him to display his excellence in making the audience laugh. His weird hair color is further more irritating. Nevertheless there are few moments in the movie where his presence is enough to evoke laughter.

Story:

An NRI girl infatuated with a cool videshi guy finally realizes that Punjab da gabru jawaan is the best - the story is nothing new, but the screenplay makes it interesting.

Rishi Kapoor, who plays Kathrina’s father, takes her to India to make her realize the goodness of India and make her get married to an Indian(Akshay Kumar). Kathrina, with advice from her friend(Upen Patel), makes false promises to Akshay, marries him and coaxes him to go to London with her. After going to London, she tells him that she is going to marry her English boy friend. How Akshay wins her over forms the rest of the story.

The first half is interesting and provides a good laugh. Some scenes, like the one which shows a prospective groom of Kathrina very much influenced by the Saas- Bahu sagas, are very good. The second half is not very convincing with Kathrina realizing things a bit too fast and clearing the road to make Akshay more suitable husband than her boy friend.

Be prepared for the usual clichés like an English man trying to criticize India and the hero making him realize his mistake and the hero being more sensitive and sensible than the videshi boy friend the heroine has chosen.

Performances:

Askhay Kumar is good in his role. I feel his comic timing should have been used more. But he handles the sentimental part of the role also well.

Kathrina has improved a lot, both with her accent and her action. Expect a few places, she has put on a good show. Rishi Kapoor played his part well. Others, including the guy who plays Kathrina’s boy friend, gave decent performances.

Overall:

If you want to watch a movie without taxing your brain a lot and you want to be entertained, then this movie is a good choice.
