I have heard a lot of good things about this movie, Many of my friends have told me great stuff about this movie and I went last week to see this movie thinking it would be groundbreaking and amazing, I can now say I am quite disappointed with this movie. Do not get my wrong the movie is “okay” also the story is really good but there is some things I do not agree on with this movie I will get to that soon

The Story

This story is about an Indian girl called Jazz (Katrina Kaif) living in London and how she is living and how she does not have a lot of interest about her culture she believes she is British and she will marry a white person. Her parents especially her father Manmohan [Rishi Kapoor] is scared about this. As of now Jazz is interested in a guy called (Charlie Brown) he had just proposed to her and she said “Yes”. Meanwhile her dad is worried about his daughter so he decided to do a family trip to India. That’s when jazz meets Arjun (Akshay Kumar) jazz is not too fond with him. But her father is, so her father gets her married to Arjun in India. Manmohan (Rishi Kapoor) and Jazz (Katrina Kaif) decide its better to let Arjun and his father come down to London and experience Jazz life and how she is living.

When they all arrive to London that is when Jazz breaks the news to say that she is not married to Arjun and the wedding was a fake and the wedding there was not registered and in London that wedding means nothing. She is more interested in Charlie. But Arjun is deeply in love with Jazz and is heart broken. He will not give up he will fight for his wife and make her see sense that he loves her and he is the right guy for her. Will Arjun get Jazz? Will Jazz marry Charlie? You will have to go and see people!

The Problem with Namastey London

As I live in London I have a very good idea of how some girls are like in this country and I must tell you that NL does show a bit of an extreme picture. Yes I know the respect for parents in India is a lot higher then what is in London. But also it is not so bad as well, When jazz was arguing with her father I have to say that I agreed to what she was saying sometimes (not that she should marry Charlie) Its also about her choice and her mistakes as well. A father should not force her to get married to a guy she does not want to. Also it showed that all London girls must be at least totally dumb or something for example at the boat engagement party if your white husband was making fun out of your culture and saying stupid jokes about your culture and you was getting irritated about it wouldn’t you be able to tell what kind of guy you are marrying?

London girls are not that dumb to see what is right and wrong. It clearly showed what was wrong and right in the film and it took at least 3 hours for the dumb bimbo to actually realise it. I think more research needed to be done about London girls, yes they drink, and they have fun. But also they have a job, they are clever to relise what is an insult and what is not one. Yes she did shut Charlie up with Arjuns speech (which was amazing by the way) but she should have told him straight where to go after that.

The songs where a bore as well, the movie does drag when they go to India and way to much songs which I did not enjoy to be honest, a lot of trimming needs to be done.

The good things about Namastey London

. The speech by Arjun (Akshay Kumar) Translated by Katrina Kaif to the Goras, Did I cheer after that speech hell yeah I did! That was one great scene. That one scene is proberly the only thing that I thought about after I left the cinema.

. The film is funny, and does generate a few laughs especially the rugby scenes which where very funny and the dinner table scene after that where everyone can not stop laughing.

Performances

I will go in order to who performed the best to the least, I will first start of with Katrina Kaif who is the heart of the film I might have not liked the character but I did enjoy the way she performed it and her acting skills have gone really good. Also she looks a million bucks in the movie do not miss her best performance by far in NL

Then comes Rishi Kapoor the slightly strict father, well I would not say strict yes he is a father and he does get walked over by his daughter in this film. He does an amazing father role might I say his scenes with Akshay kumar are really good. He is also very funny in this film and he does make a good father figure. Then Come Akshay Kumar who does well, he does make you feel sorry for him, when you think he is a larger then life hero who will do what ever it takes to win his wife over you then she him break down a few times losing hope and that makes you feel for him. He does great in the comic and emotional scenes. Upen Patel is just there for the face value, for the girls who fancy the crap out of him can go watch this movie, his performance was just about okay. Not saying he is a bad actor I am still looking forward to seeing him in Shaakala Boom Overal a solid performance from the cast!

Overall

It does drag I am afraid, the message is good no matter where you live if your Indian you will always be an Indian inside. But there is also some issues I did not like in this movie and if you read my full review you will know what they are. Did I like this movie well I would say “It’s okay” Not great but also not very bad. The movie gets boring and loses its touch and the ending was very much rushed. Go watch it if you do not mind getting introduced to the fake world of London.
