Although the first book by the author, this is a superb thriller. It is a small book too. A good successful doctor, Judd Stevens(a psychoanalyst) suddenly realizes that someone is trying to get him framed or killed.
He doubts some of his patients, and hires a private investigator to help. But then begins to doubt the investigator himself. From a slow start, the book moves towards a crisp climax that is thrilling and unexpected. The patient he almost loves, Anne, the friendly policeman and a race to keep himself alive. It is a fantastic first book.
