First of all I would like to thank mouthshut for providing me this opportunity of writing about Nainital, my hometown.
Nainital is a small and extremely beautiful hill station situated around
Naini lake in the state of Uttaranchal. It is from here, Nainital has taken its name. The Britishers loved this place. Jim Corbett had Nainital as his home for a long time. During this stay at Nainital he got the inspiration of writing
The man-eaters of Kumaon.
This place has a lot of natural beauty. Surrounded by other beautiful picnic spots, this place is one of the best hill stations of India.
Places of Interest in NainitalNaini LakeA beautiful lake in the heart of the city, this lake is of the shape of a bean. This is honeymoon couples paradise. Boating around the lake costs you around Rs. 100 - Rs. 125. This lake hosts watersports also. On one side of the lake you have shops and hotels, while on the other side you have
Thandi Sadak which is a beautiful road. You can have a round of the lake on horseback also. On one end of the lake, you have the famous
Naina Devi temple. It is said that at this place, the eye of Parvati had fallen when Lord Vishnu chopped off her body. If you are tired, you have benches to regain your stamina.
Snow ViewYou can see the divine view of the mighty Himalayas and a good view of NandaDevi fro this place. You can find people with telescope here. Before taking teh telescope, bargain on the price. The journey to Snow View can be done using Rope Way or on the back of ponies. I suggest ropeway as you get a beautiful view of the Nainital city and you can see a perfect beanlike shape of Naini lake.
Tiffin TopIt is around 4-5 kms from the city and provides a stunning view of Himalayas and the town. I suggest, it should be coupled with Snow View and Hanumangarhi. Mode of transport should be on the back of ponies to enjoy the thrill.
TalliltalTallital is the local marketplace for the residents of Nainital. You can get all the things which you get in Mallital for a lot cheaper price here.
Also worth mentioning is Hanumangarhi - Lord Hanumans temple around 4kms from the town. I suggest you should walk down to the temple and enjoy the beautiful valley on the way.
