''My Experiments With Truth'' is a simple-to-understand book written by an extremely simple man, our very own Bapu, on ideals like Truth, honesty, ahimsa. and service to humanity.
The style of writing here is in a total contrast to that of Jawaharlal Nehru in his book ''Discovery of India.'' While ''Experiments...'' is down-to-earth and deals with the practical problems of day-to-day existence, ''Discovery...'' is scholarly in nature and tends to be poetic; this is reflected in phrases like ''waxing and waning of the moon'', e.tc. This is quite in keeping with the contrasting personalities of Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru. While both were sincerely dedicated to the cause of India's freedom from British rule, Gandhi was humble and practical while Nehru was a dreamer and often tended to be impulsive.
Though it is difficult to emulate Gandhi in every way, reading Gandhi's ''Experiments.... was an extremely exhilarating experience because it answered a question that had been bothering me for so many years now. I always wondered whether it was possible to manage people in a company without being harsh. My ex-boss considered me too soft on my subordinates and made my life so difficult that I had to ultimately quit. Now when I look back, it gives me great satisfaction to know that I was on the right side of justice.
