I live in Dehradun. I was born here and I have stayed here all my life. Mussorie is a mere 20 kilometres from my house and I have been there many times. So if you are planning to come to Mussorie from somewhere far away for a trip or something, I would like to tell you that you should not. Here are the reasons why.
1) Place To Stay
If you want to look for some good lavish hotels to stay in Mussorie, then I'm sorry to disappoint you, there are none like this. Even the normal 2, 3 star hotels have very poor service as compared to other good cities.
Truth be said, there are only two 5 star hotels in Mussorie and even they have very few rooms. They are JW Marrot and Jaypee Residency Manor. If you want to stay at any of these places, you need to book a room months and months before.
2) The Scenery
You are travelling to Mussorie because you want a breath of fresh air of the mountains and heart warming beautiful views. Well, sorry, you should go to Manali or Shimla. They have much better scenic beauty. Mussorie is very dirty and cramped. The roads are very narrow and you will feel agitated. There are no plazas and all over, it is a not so well maintained place. The roads are broken and littered. The nature has not been well kept at all.
3) Places to Visit
Another big reason you come to a place as a tourist is for the destinations it offers. Well, there are no good tourist destinations in Mussorie. Only a couple of places like Kempty falls, they are very crowded and you would not have any fun at all. So yes, no fun to be offered here.
4) Safety
Mussorrie is not as such a professional place as other tourist destinations. There is no adequate safety. Roads are very dangerous, especially in the rainy season. There are frequent land slides and over all, safety could be an issue.
So yeah, I recommend you plan a trip to somewhere else instead
