One thing that has fascinated me about film making is the concept of Remakes.Remakes actually save your creativity in forming a story and the saved creativity can be induced into the original plot making
up for the originals weak points and adding to the high points of the original version.I do believe that you will feel equally satisfied improvising on other people’s works rather than experimenting with your raw thoughts. But however it depends upon the individual attitude whether he dares to take risks or whether he wants to play safe.

Whenever I see a good or an average Tamil film,I always run upon what a cast combination such a story would attract in Bollywood.Even in present times there are many films that have been remade from Tamil Movies like MKKH.Kya Yehi Pyar Hai,Badhai O Badhai,Nayak,Shakthi,Saathiya,Khushi to mention a few.Off the films,I thought Nayak had a great cast with Anil and Rani befitting or proving better than the original though I doubted Amrish Puri to emulate Raghuvaran. But the film proved to be a failure.I thought Badhai O Badhai required a younger set of actors, and I was absolutely dismayed by the star cast of Kya Yehi Pyar Hai.I have always dreamt of doing the film(remake of Tamil blockbuster LoveToday) with a cast combination like Akshaye Khanna(Aftab),Preethi Jhangiani(Amisha),Kareena Kapoor(Anupama),Amitabh(Jackie) and Nana(Ashish)etc. But still chosing cast for remakes and editing the same for your part of India does beckon some talent and thought from the director. The best of remakes for the past two years was Mujhe Kuch Kehna Hai.

’’Anandha Mazhai’’ was the original version made in Telugu and Tamil with Pawan kalyan as hero,Keerthi Reddy as heroine and Vasuki playing the role of the sister. The film also had a superb and a befitting sub cast. But the main attraction that made viewers in our city notice the film was musician Devas handiwork wher he exactly put in 2 songs from Ricky Martin (including Maria) as songs. The film completely took me aback.I was deeply impressed by the story which potrayed the cultural sentiments of our country keeping aloof the westernised youth in a beautiful blend,so similar to the reality.I was very happy with the story, screenplay and climax of the film that sounded too natural, with a good share of twists and turns.I walked back home with the feeling that it was a good film, and a small hussle that it may have done better, but I couldnt guess how.

This is where remakes come handy. They may either glorify or fill in the missing gaps of the original and prompt a viewer to look at the original or erase the honour of the original and let us have a bitter opinon on the original too.

When I heard that Anandha Mazha was remade in Bollywood with a debutant Tusshar, son of Jitendra and Kareena of all heroines, with Amrish Puri and Rinkhe Khanna in the cast too,I was pretty surprised. When I correlated charecters ,I was very pleased that Rinkie did the sister charecter and Amrish did the friendly uncle role, that would suit them highly. But I wasnt certain how this Tushaar would be and I was perplexed how such a potential role can be given to Karishams coming of age sister who seemed to have done a chirpy role in Refugee. This is where that I was once again taken aback.

I cant compare Tushar with Pawan Kalyan.Pawan is one of the most versatile actors of this generation and to match up with his terms, its tough on Tushar or Fardeen(Khushi). But Tushar did a very handy role for a newcomer and I was happy that he didnt spoil the shoe. The surprise package came from the Millenium Gal Kareena Kappor.I was very shocked that she could do the role of Pooja with that ease and impart great charm to that charecter. She had outdone Keerthi Reddy by miles, and it was that flawless perfomance of hers that made me and the whole of Tamil Nadu look at this sizzler.

Another thing that was better in the Hindu version was the music. With songs like Main Koi Jadoo...,Rabba Rabba and Duputta Mera, the musician outdid the copycat in the original too. One thing that many directors dont pay attention in remakes and that costs them dear is leaving the cultural diversity unattended to.We have to accpt that the North and the South do have some cultural diversities, even if on small scale. The adjustment of this cultural diversity, and transformation of the South to North or the North to South accordingly has been the focal point where the directors leave their grounds. But Satish Kaushik has been very clever and has made the required transformations and made the story look like one straight from the streets of Bollywood.

It was a satisfactory remake, and I returned home a happy man.I cant discuss with you wheter this is a great movie or not,but I will definetely bet on anything that MKKH was a better remake than many films
