Fear of a Portly Planet

It’s a little-known fact that the world at large harbors the fear of a portly planet. The thin elite suspect we’ll one day topple the teeter-totter of society and reveal the truth of the matter on beauty and acceptability. I’ve done what I can to offset the misguided notions of a svelte and bony mainstream belief that relegates some of the best people I know (and more folks than not) to the realm of pudgy pye-dogs and paunchy pariahs.

Next, those swaggering coxcombs will rail against alliteration!

What are we to do?

Unfortunately, I have not come bearing answers. I only tote a pocketful of feisty opinions and a rucksack of sturdy sentiments. And, with these wares at my disposal, I tend to run off of those whose mental faculties are not prepared to join the battle.

That’s okay.

At the end of the day, I’m another day older. And when the dust settles, I know there are some faithful ones who’ll stand nearby.

What does all this mean?

Why are you asking me? Remember? I already mentioned that I have not come bearing answers. But, I can offer the steadfast loyalty of that bizarre animal of cyber-friendship. It’s a theorem tested elsewhere on the strands of the world wide web.

Through contributions to sites that offer an amalgam of postings or interaction, I’ve been known to luxuriate in the distinctions of community and carve out a splendid relationship or two (or more) with good folks that are geographically far removed from the piney woods of East Texas.

And now I’ve landed here -- at mouthshut.com.

Already I’ve discovered a few familiar personalities. Already I’ve felt that strange wave of curiosity that hints of wonderful developments, newfound friends, engaging writers, and a lesson or two about the way the world moves from one moment to the next.


A Confluence of Trust

So, I’ve boiled down my expectations from the grand scale of dreams to a sufficiency of hopes . . . and five little letters: t - r - u - s - t.

I can take it, and I can dish it out.

If I can’t trust the people I interact with at mouthshut.com, then I should boldly depart. If I can’t trust the people behind the entity, the very men and women who created and maintain this site, then I should likewise be gone.

You might say those very concepts are the ones that brought me here, that birthed this inaugural post.

I’m spurred on by the delightful philosophy that there are noble people out there that I should meet, that I should come to know, and that should have the opportunity to be tainted by the peculiarities of this husky East Texan.

So, let’s make a pact, you and I. Let’s agree to give this endeavor some energy and see what floats ahead in the uncharted waters of the future.

I don’t fear a portly planet. If we can’t find each other and trust each other, I fear that bodes ill for our global society.
