Just read some of the views on the community center. I have been a mouthshut member almost since its inception. Among the many thing good about MS the best was, what i thought, its implementation of Members first policy. They never kept any query waiting and sometimes it looked as if they had realized their mistakes even before any member did.

But after reading MS’s reply to the abababbey view on Community center I was disappointed. I thought that MS completely missed the whole point. The point the member, i thought, wanted to make was that certain sections of the community center, which supposedly attracted the most attention, looked stale and outdated. So in a site where a new view is added per 5/10 minutes a stale section would more or less be a liability then an asset. As for MS’s reply that it is based on the most no. of hits a review or a member profile got, then i think they should take a look at the innumerable ’weekly countdown shows’ on various television channels. What if they just took the total no. of albums sold as the criteria & ignored the weekly aspect? We would still be listening to Khalnayak’s , Gambler’s, HAHK’s, DDLJ’s, Dil se’s song in them. How many of us would have liked to watch those songs over & over again week after week over the years and for the years to come?

That’s just how ’Hot Reviews’ & ’Hall of Fame’ sections of community center are being decided mathematically. I hope members remember my review on ’Mouthshut’, which I wrote a few months after the launch of MS. There was no community center then and i hinted at the need of something like it. Because being a regular visitor of MS i knew that except the latest 30 reviews, you were left completely on your own with a little help from the random star writer photographs which were generally misleading. And as MS was a new site with not many categories a couple of 75 word reviews or absence of reviews on most categories could easily irk a person. The whole point was to credit the good reviews & members in the same time making it the most hot & happening place on MS. Everybody would agree a review written 9 months ago cannot be hot. As for the profile hits, almost every new member would visit community center first and would not surprisingly visit the profiles of the members listed there. Thus creating an almost unending cycle, which may sound mathematically correct but illogical at the same time. By featuring the review of the day MS has conferred to my views in the abovesaid review. I hope that they would also take notice of the periodic factor in their mathematical analysis.

MS has always been a good site and their constant upgrades shows that they have never been complacent & always striving to get better. I sincerely hope that this little improvement is given a serious thought by MS, which would make it a little better than it already is. Anybody listening ;-)))))).
