I know...ANOTHER MouthShut review...well, yes. But I have listed some concerns with the site as well.

MouthShut is one of the great benefits brought on by the internet. My opinionated attitude has gotten me in hot water at times, but on MouthShut opinions are encouraged. And rewarded!

I visited MouthShut for a few days, reading the reviews and profiles of members, before joining. I was impressed with the layout, content, speed of the site, and quality of most reviews. I know there are other “opinion” sites on the web, but MouthShut came across a little more “comfortable” to me.

As an American, I unfortunately, can not relate to some services and reviews, but it does not detract from the site at all. In fact, the cultural aspect of MouthShut is intriguing to me. Things I’ve never heard of before, I now know something about.

I find the MouthPad section especially helpful. It allows some real control over recommending new items.

My Ratings:
Highly Recommended – obviously, the writer has used the product, seen the movie, been to the website, and has something to say about it. If it seems to be just something to take up words, in order to rack up points, I will not give this rating. Details are the main point here.

Recommended – it may also be obvious that the writer is familiar with the product, but has just not given much detail on it. I don’t have to like the movie, song, etc. in order to give it this review, but it has to give some detail.

Somewhat Recommended – maybe the writer had a bad day, or did not finish the movie, or whatever. If it comes off as a half-hearted attempt, it will receive this rating.

Not Recommended – If no details are given, whatsoever…if plagiarized…if incoherent to the point absurdity…then, I will give this rating. Rarely do I feel a review deserves this.

Some Concerns (issues with members, not MouthShut):
I have been a member on MouthShut for only three weeks or so, but I’ve already noticed a surprising number of dishonest members.

I, as well as the majority of members, come to MouthShut to give sincere reviews, and read information from “real” people. Not professional reviewers or critics. Real people in real world situations.

When I see a review on a product which is plagiarized from another source, it reflects poorly on not only the one who stole the review, but MouthShut itself.

The integrity of MouthShut is only as strong as the integrity of it’s members.

If I see a review which I know has been plagiarized, I will post the information as a comment on the review, place the member on my distrust list, contact MouthShut, and place the info on my profile. All with the link to the original review. I will not throw around groundless accusations.

As a member, I feel a responsibility to do this. Not to be a snitch, but keep the integrity of the site strong.
