What is the main objective of advertisements? As the son of a professor in marketting, I can tell you that advertising is all about making others believe you are the best of the lot, or at least,
the cheapest of the lot. Though you may not be, which is mostly always the case.
It is however more adviseable for products to advertise themselves as the ones above the rest rather than showing how morbid the others are. This I say here as a piece of advice to two brands- Sprite and Mountain Dew.
Sprite was, of course, as far as I know, the originator of the pull-other-brands-legs advertisements. Of course Pepsi vs Coca Cola might give them a run for their money, but Sprite-ads undoubtedly ruled in being the most offensive of the lot.
Mountain Dew, in an attempt to answer back with the same vindictiveness, introduced this add about four monkeys bungee-jumping and a fifth geek sitting on the top and gulping down, what obviously was supposed to be, Sprite.
When I saw this advertisement first, I found it a very shabby
jawaab to Sprites advertisement, but I still did not find it such a dirty thing.
However, what continued after that was not so nice.
OK, the
cheetah bhee peeta hain ad was pretty tolerable, and average, which did not really impress me. But the latest of the lot, the one with those guys fleeing from their corporate-world office to the top of it and skate-boarding on it is awfull.
You know how the ad goes, so dont make me describe that.
What I just want to say here is this: I believe that showing anything related to urine in a drinks ad is horribly improper. It makes me feel like one ur*** is being compared to another ur***!
It does, doesnt it?
What I suggest to Mountain Dew is that it may just find itself a good theme and build up on it like Aamir Khan is doing, and quite wonderfully as well, for Coca Cola. Pepsi might be running a rather lousy show, but at least its not disgusting.
So, Mountain Dew...
whenever I think of this stuff, I just go....
HECK! Its stinks!
