We went from Delhi to Anand, Gujarat on last week by train and reached here next day. There we stayed at my relative house for 3 nights and leave the place on next day. We took taxi from Anand to Mount Abu, Rajasthan. Mount Abu has lush surroundings of Aravali hills at an altitude of 1, 220 m above the sea level, is the only hill station in the desert state of Rajasthan. Mount Abu is also famous for its 11-13th century Hindu and Jain temples.

Dilwara Jain Temples :

The most famous tourist attraction in Mount Abu is the Dilwara temples, which were constructed between 11th and 13th centuries AD. Sacred to Jain, they are considered masterpieces of temple architecture.

The Vimal Vasahi temple in the complex is worth mentioning as the temple took around 14 years to complete and is dedicated to Adinath, the first Jain tirthankaras.

These beautifully carved temples in white marbles are dedicated to different Tirthankaras. We had saw intricately carved images of female figures in dancing poses on some of the 48 pillars.

Nakki Lake :

Nakki Lake is a beautiful picnic spot in Mount Abu. According to the legend, the lake was created by a Hindu God using his nails, and so derives its name Nakki (nail) Lake. The lake offers breathtaking view of surrounding hills and offers ideal spot for boating. The weather was foggy so we could not saw its full beautiful view. However we enjoyed its foggy view too in the monsoon.

Guru Shikar :

Guru Shikar is the highest peak of the Aravali range, located at about 15 km north-east of Mount Abu. It's an important Hindu pilgrimage site here. These temples are dedicated to Guru Dattatreya, Chamundi, Shiva and Mira. These include five temples, namely Vimal Vasahi, Luna Vasahi, Pithalhar, Khartar Vasahi and Mahavir Swami. The Adhar Devi Temple can be reached by 365 steep carved steps and is situated about 3 km from Mount Abu.

Other famous attractions in Mount Abu include the Gaumukh Temple, which derives its name from a sculpted cow situated in the temple compound, Adhar Devi Temple and Shri Raghunathji Temple. The guide says its risky to see the Gaumukh temple as the passage to it has a forest.

Achalgargh:

Achalgargh, an old fort, built in the 14th century by Rana Kumbha of Mewar, is also a spot that we visited. The fort in itself encloses many Jain Temples - Achaleshwar Mahadev Temples and Kantinath Temple.

Bhrama Kumaris:

Mount Abu has the World Spiritual University and head quarter of the Bhrama Kumaris, a well known sect, and their followers located at Madhuban. There was a spiritual lecture delivered by an old lady and a group of people took interest in the courses.

The way to Mount abu from Anand we saw Ambaji temple too. On two days visit we were back to Anand (via Palanpur, Mehasana, Ahmedabad route)  again and the next day we took the return train to Delhi.

The overall trip was enjoyed very much.
