I don’t know what all the bad press is about. I have a family plan with Cingular and the $45 a month plan with Metro PCS. Metro beats Cingular hands down in every way. I got four crappy (free) phones from Cingular and in one year I’ve had to replace all four phones once and two of them twice. Reception is hit and miss and dropped calls are a regular annoyance. Their customer service is OK.
Metro PCS has been great. I paid $129 for a decent phone. I got my first month free and activation was free. With taxes and surcharges my bill is a manageable $56 per month no matter how much I talk or text.
I’ve got great reception (even where my Cingular phone usually craps out.) I’ve called Metro’s customer support a couple of times with questions and received prompt courteous and professional service. The downside: There is no internet connection (except to purchase downloads) but I never check my mail or go online with my phone anyway.
For a total of $56 I get unlimited local and long distance calling, unlimited text messaging, unlimited picture messaging, enhanced voicemail, 3-way calling, caller ID, and call waiting, and if I want to I can add additional calling features for a few bucks more.
