I have been driving a new Mercedes Benz c200 for two weeks. This is really some car! I can scarcely believe the power available from such a small engine. I am used to driving V6 engined vehicles hailing
from the USA. The C200 does a better job, with less fuss, and mean petrol consumption. It is called a Kompressor, which means it has a supercharged engine (It is a belt driven compressor). With a mix of city and country driving, the trip computer on the instrument panel tells me I have averaged 9litres per 100km. After the highway driving, it was down to 7.9 litres per 100km.
This car has so many advanced features, such as six airbags, traction control, ABS braking as well as braking control to stop sideways sliding in a corner. The driving position is superb- I can handle the steering wheel with straight arms, the leather seating gives me firm support with lateral stability.
I like the subdued growl the exhaust gives, when you really push it hard on the accelerator. But the car is whisper quiet in normal driving, and can get quite lazy if you dont push it- it will happily potter along with 1500rpm on the rev counter. I am looking forward to driving this car for a few more years. Then? Maybe I will upgrade to a bigger brother Merc.
