It was early January several years back that I went to Chennai for the first time. I had been sent there by my company to explore business

opportunities in the south. Since our company did not have any earlier presence there and I too was new to the place, I had stayed in a hotel close to the airport initially. I later moved to a more suitable hotel in the city. However the one omnipresent problem there was that of the mosquitoes. They seemed to be everywhere. It’s probably the weather of Chennai that remains hot the whole year, which is very conducive to the breeding of these little devils.

However in a few days time I noticed a very strange phenomenon. When I would go in to bathe in the bathroom, there would be several of little pests there, but when I came back from the office there would be none. They would either be lying on the floor dead, or if the house keeping had cleaned the place be simply vanished. For several days I could not figure out the logic of this happening. Then one day when the soap provided by the hotel finished, instead of asking them for a replacement for the dingy green bar that they had provided, I took out my standard more modern bar. But then again I noticed that now the mosquitoes had stopped dying and were always present in growing numbers. It was then that I noticed the connection between the soap provided by the hotel and the death of the mosquitoes. I finally concluded that after I took my bath, the fragrance and the effect of the wet soap lying in the bathroom somehow managed to kill the mosquitoes within a few hours. But how and why should such a thing happen, I wondered. It was then that I searched about and discovered the wonderful properties of this magic soap called “Medimix”.

Manufactured by the Cholayil Pvt Ltd Company of Chennai, this is one unique ayurvedic preparation. The company is about three decades old and manufactures health care products like this soap and talcum powders like cuticura etc. These products are not only popular in Chennai but also sold all over India.

Medimix is the flagship product of this company. It is primarily an ayurvedic soap made from 18 natural herbs and ingredients. It has ingredients like Vacha, Usheeram, Guggulu, Jyotishmathi, Dhanyaka, Jeeraka, Yashtimadhu, Kutaja, Nimba Twak, Krishna Jeeraka, Chitraka, Bakuchi, Chopchini, Vanadraka, Vidangam, Sariba, Dharu Haridra, Devadaru.

The above ingredients have immense benefits and medicinal properties that benefit the human body. From being antibacterial and antifungal to deodorant. Not only that they also act as a coolant and work against eczema. There are several benefits of this soap. I will not go into each of them here, and you can read about them from their website at https://cholayil.com/product.asp?cat=1&subcat=1. However the soap is also said to prevent pimples, remove excess oil from the skin without being too harsh and also prevents itching and body odor.

Another good part is that this soap can be easily used in the place of a shampoo also and provides protection from dandruff. The soap is not too harsh and thus does not leave the hair too dry as any other soap would. On the contrary it will nourish the hair. It also contains natural oils that give a natural shine to the skin after the bath.

The soap now comes in three different variations, though the main ayurvedic one remains the most popular. Apart from the ayurvedic soap with 18 herbs, Medimix is also available with Glycerine and Laxadi oil, which is primarily for dry skin types. The third type of medimix is the one with Sandal and Eladi oils which is very effective for the treatment of skin blemishes.

Most of these soaps are available in 18, 45, 75 and 125-gram bars.

I was surprised to read that this company supplies the Medimix brand to more than 4000 institutions across the country including hotels, hospitals, industries etc. They also supply extensively to the railways, ports, and the Rashtrapati Bhavan as well!

The company also manufactures products like

Rituta, medicine for regulating the menstrual cycle.

Yakrita, medicine for Hepatitis

DumaDum, capsules for vitality

Grahi, anti Dhyrial medicine

Tejaswani, skincare capsules

Medimix, ayurvedic cough syrup

Cuticura, talcum powder

However I personally have tried only the soap with 18 herbs and found the same very effective and good from use of several years. The soap really showcases the power of ayurveda and is a must try once for all those who have any kind of skin problem and also for those who do not.

All other products should be tried in consultation with your physician only.
