Mathura is the birth place of lord krishna . It is a holy city . The people in mathura speak braj bhasha and hindi and many of them speak in gujarati also . Major trains stop at Mathura via Mumbai - Delhi route . Nearest airport is delhi airport . From there you can take a car or a train to mathura . By car it takes about 3 hrs while train takes one hour . There are many hotels in mathura and there are dharamshalas also . The best hotel is Brijwasi royal , it is near the station . Another hotel next to Yamuna is the Agra Hotel , which is located at bengali ghat , next to Yamuna river , near vishram ghat . Another reasonable place for staying is Radheshyam Ashram , which also at bengali ghat . The people in mathura are mostly brahmands known as the Choubas . There is also a good museum at mathura near dampier nagar . Travelling is not a problem in mathura as there are plenty of cycle-rickshaws,tongas,auto-rickshaws available in large numbers . But out of these , the cycle rickshaws are the cheapest ones. The food speciality is kachori-sabzi ,a delicious breakfast of majority of people here . I recommend to every one going to mathura to eat it , you will fall in love with it . The best place for eating kachori-sabzi is near holi gate , the shop’s name is Oma . There are hundreds of such places but this is the best one among them . There is one another place near Holi gate , Shankar Mithai Wala , they serve best chhole - bhature in Mathura and the lassi is also fabulous . The chhole-bhature is Rs.20 per plate , in that you get two bhaturas .
the kachori sabzi is about Rs.4 per person. Oppossite Shankar mithai wala is the cyber cafe ,there you can check your emails while eating some good food . The chowmein served is great , pav bhaji is also good . There are many temples in Mathura and near Vrindavan . The Krishna Janambhoomi , banke bihari temple , are the tourists hotspots.The best time to visit mathura is between November to March , the climate is pleasant during that time of the year . You must go in groups of minimum 5 people .
