Matheran is located in karjat tehsil of maharashta and I just visited it on 20 september and stayed there for more than 2 days . it is a beautiful hill station and no doubt about that .
Moreover it is almost pollution free as vehicles are not allowed there only horse carts are available , but a toy train is present thus there is no sounds of HONKING or any vehicle caused pollution.

Matheran is the most beautiful hill station in india . its distance 130 km from pune.
I used to travel by train from pune I board at karjat which is 90 km from pune and then a local train from karjat to Neral which is almost 20 km in distance.

There are a number of lookout points that provide. spectacular views of the surrounding hills and valley, almost all the points offer pretty good sunrise, sunset, mountain and valley views, so walk or horse ride or take a rickshaw to whichever you prefer. Remember that the more popular points will be crowded, especially at sunset.
Some of what I liked a lot spots are as below :
Lake Charlotte - a spectacular waterfall overflows from the lake during and shortly after the monsoons. At other times, it is peaceful surrounded by dense evergreen forests, bird song , fresh air .
????Heart point ????: Here one can see a beautiful scene ! Sorry, very beautiful scene of the valley and this point looks like heart??
so it is named so
????????Monkey's point???????? : Here you can see the monkeys in large numbers and their mischief life-sized. However I seen monkeys everywhere in Matheran
And last but not least I really enjoyed this .????
Echo point : True to it's name, this point has some superb Echo effect! Feel free to scream loud at the point and hear the echo coming from distant places through the valleys!
What one can enjoy ( like I did ) is learn horse riding as well as It is also quite popular way of getting around in Matheran. Finding a horse is not very difficult, as there are many of them around. It is a great way to travel for people who prefer not to walk, but rates must
Hotels and accomodation :
Plenty of accomodation is available at little costly price . it is a tourist place this rates are bit higher than normal.
You have spent a little more money here for hotel and accomodation.
SAFETY: .
This is a hill station thus cold weather is there , so it is adviced to take woolen cloth .
Other than this , vehicles are not allpwed so tourists have to either wander by foot or by horse riding, horse riding will not be advicible as with it , you will miss the real MATHERAN . but if you are choosing to go by foot , please go in group as it is a vast land piece and chances are high that you might get lost in it. Or one might forget the route .
Never forget to carry waterbottle and medicines in bag.
