Latest Update (9-Oct-2007)

Guys... got my VDi 2 weeks back and already done approx 2000 kms. The car is a breeze to drive. Even steep inclines doesn’t seem to stop this powerhouse. Driving and overtaking on the mountains is totally effortless... u don’t seem to be climbing a hill when u just press the accelerator and the turbo already kicked in. On the straight roads... no compa

rison!!!
Even city driving is perfect. Car is smooth to run around, especially because of light power steering. Reversing the car is a problem initially, but one gets used to it with time. Some rattling sounds from the boot though, but got fixed after the 1st service.

One thing I would like to say here... many people complain about the stock tires... stating they aren’t good for grip and all that stuff. I’ve driven this car on the highway with 100+ speeds but didn’t find any such issue. We are not going to race everytime, and the tires do a good job under the normal driving conditions!!!

Now the important thing... Constantly getting 17-18 kmpl with AC. What more you want?

’Superb’ is the word that comes to my mind when I think about the car. This car is really a revolution when it comes to small diesel cars available in India, and amazingly it doesn’t feel like diesel etall!!!

Just have a glance at the Suzuki’s masterpiece and you fall in love with it. Vertical headlamps, front fog lamps, 14" wheels, it has got all it needs to initially charm your senses. Enter the cabin and there’s a feeling of space and comfort. The interiors of the car are good enough. Steering wheel, dashboard feel good, round AC vents look attractive and the instrument panel is simply great. It’s amber color feel is quite warm. The outer illuminated ring of the speedometer is a nice concept. Seats are very comfortable, and so is the driving position and outer view. Outside rear view mirrors are large and one has perfect view of the road behind, though the inside rear view mirror is hard to work with initially because of its poor visibility of the rear. The rear seats are comfortable enough to accomodate three average size adults and the leg space out there is average, but it’s great in the front. The rear windows are small and do not give feeling of roomy interiors. Reversing the car is hard too bacause of poor rear visibility... blame it on small inside rear view mirror and mainly the small rear windshield. BTW this all is common to the petrol Swift VXi.

Enough of the body language, now lets come to the real thing. Just turn the ignition key to start the car... and there’s NO extra sound or vibration that reminds you it’s a diesel. It’s amazingly silent in the inside, and even not too noisy on the outside as compared to Indica/Indigo/Accent CRDi. Now shift to 1st gear and press the accelerator... here you go... the drive no way feels like diesel or inferior to the petrol one, in fact, it feels better as you rev up the engine. Turbo lag is hardly noticable, and the car just flies off once you reach 40kmph. I must say at this point this car is more powerful than its petrol sibling because of 195Nm of torque. It just behaves like a beast asking for more speed. In the third gear, it hardly takes any time for the car to reach 100kmph from 40kmph. The suspension of the car is good enough and the car is damn stable at speeds in access of 100kmph... the max I drove is 115kmph. Gear shift is amongst the best I’ve seen. AC is effective, and so is the power steering. The immobilizer adds to the peace of mind.

What more? It returns an average of 17-18kmpl of diesel with AC always on. And the after sales service backed by Maruti network. Really economical!!!

A great car... a great performer... and a new benchmark for the diesel cars in India. That’s what I have to say. Comments are always welcome.

Pros:
Everything
Cons:
I love the Car... so no probs!!! ;-)
