SX4 Zxi Vs Verna SX CRDi!

It’s not so right to compare a petrol Vs a diesel car. But Verna CRDi is almost close to a petrol car. Below are some points where I feel both

cars differ. The technical specs and points where the cars don’t differ or slightly differ have been intentionally left out.

Value for money
SX4 wins here with its features. Verna loses out mainly on airbag and alloy wheels

Cost
Verna is costlier than SX4 by roughly a lakh.

Fuel Efficiency
Verna wins here. Moreover it is diesel.

Torque
Verna is a clear winner here with its amazing 240nm. The turbo lag is not that noticeable (unless you accelerate too fast)

Alloy wheels
Even the top end model of Verna does not come with alloy wheels (maybe to keep the prices down)

Air bags
SX4 has two. Verna none

Folding rear seat
SX4 cannot. Verna can do it at 60-40 split.

Ground clearance
No doubt SX4!

Rear head room
SX4 has slight problems here. Especially if you have a tall passenger in rear centre.

Rear leg room
If the front seats are fully pushed back, the back passengers are cramped in Verna. Not so much in SX4.

Boot space
SX4 again.

Maintenance cost
Verna dealer says service is required only once for every 10,000Kms. But being diesel, the maintenance cost for this car could be slightly higher.

Clarity about success
Verna CRDi has been out since end of last year (2006) and is supposed to be a big success. It is too early to comment on SX4.

Resale value
CRDi would have better resale value I feel

Front Passenger comfort
You are more closer to road level in Verna than in SX4. SX4 was more comfortable to enter and exit

Rear passenger comfort (3 people)
Known bug in SX4. The centre armrest in SX4 protrudes out. Verna is better here.

External design
SX4 has better external looks. Verna is hardly noticed on road.

Interior design
SX4 design and quality is better. I felt there is too much biege plastic in Verna. The Verna test drive cars were already dirty. But the fabric of seats in Verna I felt would would attract less dirt than in SX4.

Power steering
In SX4 this is electrically controlled. Verna has hydraulic.

Immobilizer
Verna misses this.

City driving comfort
SX4 offered me a smoother drive in city.

Highway driving comfort
Verna is a rocket on highways after 1900rpm

Audio System
Audio controls on steering and tweeters are additional in SX4.

Turning radius
Verna has much better turning radius

Trunk room light
SX4 has this. Verna not.

Body color mud flap
Not available even in top end model of Verna

Distance limit on service
Verna does not have any km limit for its free services.

The difference between the two cars is not that vast, but a close evaluation brought out SX4 a winner.
