Guys, had a chance to test drive the SX4 - Maruti’s new GRAND kid on the block. The version I drove was ZXi, fully loaded with Integrated Music System, ABS and Airbags. Just wanted to share my initial
observations about the car.
Look and Feel:
1. The outside look is mighty and strong with the 16" alloy wheels adding the muscle.
2. From inside, the cockpit feels somewhat like the Swift - same steering wheel and gear shift lever, just except for Music system controls on the steering.
3. The controls are handy, especially the joystick type electric outside rear view mirror control feels good to use.
4. Space is ample. Even a six footer like me was comfortable at the rear after the driver seat stretched as per me in the driving seat. But not sure it’s as much as the City.
5. The arm rest in the rear feels good, but is a problem for the 3rd person sitting in between.
6. Integrated Music system - Aah... looks clean and amazing, the steering controls are handy for the driver, sounds good... but the sound just explodes and not clear when you just pump up the volume to enjoy the beats. It lacks punch.
7. The boot is really huge!!!
Drive:
1. You just know the engine power as soon as you press the accelerator. The pickup is fast and smooth. Gear shift smooth, torque is great even at low speeds, so quick overtaking is no problem.
2. Power steering handles well and A/C is quite effective.
3. Car really handles well on the road. Driver view of the road is excellent.
4. The ground clearance of the car is amazing, no problem even when you are on rough roads.

Fuel consumption:
Not sure, but as per the dealer it’s 13-15kmpl.
Overall a good car, and that too in a segment where Maruti is almost non-existent. But this is just an initial impression of the car. Only time will tell how this car fairs against the likes of the City, Fiesta, etc. But after all, it’s a MARUTI and we can rely upon it!!!
